Also why so many changes?

Vernam and Embleton probably our 2 biggest players to make something happen :/

hmmm.....Famewo fair enough...Hooper out...fair enough.....Clifton has been looking decent IMO so a bit hard done by if just dropped as opposed to injured.

Woolford has rarely made even the beach lately, why his been chosen ahead of Vernam and Clifton (fair enough if Clifton is tired) I’ll never know.

Perhaps Woolford could surprise us all tonight. Should be fresh and could hopefully bust a gut to prove himself and get back in the starting 11.

Or he has a mare and we get battered.

Hope its the former!!

I am reliably informed he was spotted in Tesco the other night....that probably has no bearing on anything but just raising it in case MJ cites it as a reason for his absence in the post match interview and i can then claim the exclusive scoop.

Seems like we might have arrived back at the line up lottery game again but hopefully MJ has a plan in place.

I could be totally wrong but I think the Clifton change will be purely down to tiredness. Hooper is a strange one but happy to see a natural left sider get another go. Probably no coincidence that our best run coincided with Woolford dropping out but there is a good player in there, think back to Lincoln at home.

Come on Grimsby!

Second game in a few days after playing pretty much the same line up for 4 or 5, and we've lost the last two. Not surprised he's re-jigged it a bit to be honest. Let's hope it works!

Wow, surprised by the posts suggesting it's been an even game. Mansfield by far the better team. More positive and incisive. Their chances only stopped by very good saves. We've had a couple of occasions where we might have made a chance but looked devoid of confidence to even make it a chance when the opportunity presents itself.

I'd bite your hand off for a point right now. Hopefully we can make it to half time and change things.

No one standing out for Town yet in a positive way. Hopefully a few of the changes can play themselves into the game more.

Anyone out there that decided not to buy the game for £10 on iFollow wish they had now ?

Must admit it was a last minute decision for me as I thought Mansfield would probably be out of sight by half-time.

At least it makes for an interesting second half.......even if we lose.

I nearly did PP.  I watched the mk dons game (lol I think it was mk dons) and I thought the service was pretty decent.  No point me getting it as I'm in a hotel that has the worse WiFi in the world.  But will be looking at the extended highlights when I get home tomorrow.

We deserve a bit of luck after recent games,

Mansfield are a good team and look pretty solid by the own goal, just like the last 2 games though were digging in and making chances, Macca is having a worldie he really does look top of his Game at the min.

I think we’re going to need a lot of determination, bravely and recilliance in the 2nd half as Mansfield are going to come on strong.if Town come out strong and try get a quick goal first 10-15 mins that could knock the stuffing out of them but if the opposite happens could be a long second half.

Come on town!!!!

We need to do to Mansfield what Kidderminster did to us several years ago... But countering them at pace.
Posted by: chaos33, November 6, 2018, 8:52pm; Reply: 69
Hard to counter attack with pace when there aren't any quick players in the team. That tactic is suited to Vernam and Embleton.
And A Rose.

Wow, what a game Macca is having. I've often been a little critical of him due to the fact that in the games I've seen he's not had many saves to make but has shown the weaknesses we all know he has. Tonight he's been absolutely outstanding. Stopped 3 maybe 4 chances that not all keepers would have stopped. Even took a dangerous cross lol.

I think our lack of pace is really hurting us. Perhaps even more so when we lose the ball as Mansfield can just get past our midfield so easily. Players can't get back. It would be an asset going forward to of course.

Feel like we are missing Cliftons energy (if not pace).

I bet Jolley is working so hard with Rose to get his all round game to a point he could play somewhere in the team

The problem MJ has and maybe why he rotates so often is some of the players inconsistencies so probably feels he needs to change.  Definately lack of pace in the team.  I think MJ team selection has lost us this game.  Not the team I would pick and you'd probably agree.

If we survive this season I'd let MJ go.

Too many players who today at least were not good enough.
Only players who can take anything from the game were Macca and Collins.

Add to them players who are probably good enough to start most of the time: Rose, Hendrie, Embleton

Vernam and Cliffon can do a job. Still leaves us short a few players.

Hard to tell how the rest of the  players would perform with maximum confidence, but that looks hard to get currently.

I didn’t even listen to the commentary tonight, never mind spending a tenner. Interest has been slowly ebbing away. To be honest, since promotion my interest has been sucked out of me by the powers that be. Well done Fenty, at least there is something your good at!

Just watched that and I'm depressed. Our players just have no battle in them. Some passes going astray constantly and hall Johnson was an embarrassing defender tonight.  Thomas couldn't keep the ball at all and hold it up. Didn't realise cook was playing until he was subbed. Midfield lathargic and and second to everything. Not seen anything positive at all.
Did we have a shot within 20 yard of the target?

Mansfield looked decent but the passion that town showed was sod all. Midfield was shocking.

Team looks cheap and nasty.

Huge gulf between the two teams' front 6s
They were strong, fast, dangerous
We were powder puff, wasteful and inept

Cook
Pringle
Woolford
Hess

What did they offer?

Feel sorry for Thomas - no service and no help
He's a good striker IMO
1 in 4 goal record

Very disappointing and worrying

Its hard, really hard, we blew the chance to use the momentum when we got promoted, and now weve just had nothing to get excited about for a long time. Just feel sick right now, dunno why this ones hit me hard just hating life as a town fan right now

Forked out a tenner
Our goal was Wes & his experience that's it & no other goal threat in the game
We played some good stuff on the floor at times but it's always that last pass going astray so no end product
We look small ineffective & a bit like an U23 team playing the big boys
Wonder why that is?

Pretty much same as last season. Cant score. Give away soft goals. Macca pulls off a few great saves to keep the score down.

Not good enough. Last season we had the benefit of a huge points cushion at Christmas that basically saved our skin. That is not happening this year.

I want MJ to succeed, but I honest now think he is not up to it.
Posted by: Madeleymariner, November 6, 2018, 9:55pm; Reply: 141
Pringle was decent, won the ball in midfield a lot more than anyone else on the pitch, Thomas feeding off scraps again, Macca outstanding, Woiolford might as well have not been in the squad still, poor RHJ made to look useless,
Interesting comparisns with the teams, If Mansfield picked up a lose ball in their own half it was either run or pass straight forward and momentum continues, we get it in the same situation we hold  spin around twice look to do a crab action then hope that a punt up to somones head against 3 big centre halves will do it.
When a Stags player receives ball to feet edge of the box Collins steps back 3 paces so they have time to hold it up, when it goes up to Thomas they are all over him sticking there foot around trying to unbalance him.
I am getting so frustrated watching this negative rubbish week in week out. >:(

Quickly losing interest in this mediocre shower.
Let's hope the January transfer window brings us a couple of gems. Don't hold your breath though.
Bogle on loan might be a good starter.

Is it fitness (it shouldn't be)? Is it lack of concentration? Is it that MJ is not as tactically astute as other managers? Or is it just that we are sh1te as to why we can't keep going for 90 mins. If we get in the lead, we usually can't maintain it. If we go behind, we can't get back in the game.

Yet another p1ss poor season grinds inexorably on into nothingness. We will be knocked out of the cup and the only thing to play for will be our league status, which i wouldn't be surprised if we relinquish. Fook going on Saturday. I'll be off into the Dales doing something enjoyable.

Never thought i would lose interest in Town, but the time has come for me.

It's the same old story every game,

If Jolley can not find 2 or 3 gems come January he will be gone by February

We never have decent possession
Therefore never have sustained pressure
Therefor never create anything
Therefore never score many

Frustrating and getting more and more hacked off

Cash must be splashed in Jan - otherwise we are in big trouble

Jolly still not learning. Anybody could see that our right back was not getting any support from our right midfield. He did nothing whatsoever to remedy this. He plays Pringle who couldn't run 100 yds in 10 minutes in the first half and in the second half couldn't run 10 yards in 100 minutes. If not fit by now he never will be. No pace throughout the team, can't get back when attacks break down.High balls down the middle against the biggest defence in the division,no balls through the channels and no meaningful instructions from the touchline. If it wasn't for Macca it would have been a cricket score. Sorry to say we are getting no better. Is it fitness or are we just shite ? We have got to spend in January or we are gone.

In this league you have to be physical which they were to a man and big
We are small not very physical not very astute
Who's gonna win?

Bloke on RH just said 'no passion'
Bollox
Why is this always the angry fan's default outburst?

We have 'no' creativity, guile, craft, clever players

Passion is a given and I see that each game

What I don't see is the above things mentioned

He needs to sign 3 or 4 big physical players in jan that can get in the faces of the opposition cos the players we’ve got now are just too powder puff to compete . Whether Fenty will give him the ££££ to do this is another question but without some nasty players we’re just going to keep getting turned over . Forget your footballing dreams for this season jolley and face the reality

Baffled by tonight’s team selection the recall of Woolford defies belief and the two players who are capable of giving us pace and thus a threat on the counter are omitted.

Well into the season and MJ still does not know his best eleven, his preferred style of play and what and when to make substitutions. Looking very bleak and like many will not be bothering with the cup game.

Need a very positive run up until Christmas otherwise suspect it will be all change again.  Just seems like we are the only team in the country who appear to lose every match. Hate to think what our stats are for 2018 what is it 3 home wins and similar away. No wonder we are all depressed constantly changing significant numbers of players but never seeing any improvement in performances in fact they get worse, unbelievable and unacceptable.

Watching the game tonight makes me think that Patches O'Houlihan is the coach, more dodge ball going on that keeping possession or controlling the ball, and I swear that I saw a bat or two get knocked out of the night sky with all that aimless hoofing going.

Our fans take the urine out of Rhead but he is exactly what we need, even Matt is scoring regularly at Newport so what the intercourse happens when strikers play for town’s wingless wonders?

Not saying M.J. is blameless but looking back that enforced break after our little run could not have happened at a worse time.

Our form had picked up and we were starting to relax but the break took away that momentum now we are back to square one.

Pressure building on everybody again not least Jolley.

Thought he would be a lucky talisman but the curse of Grimsby seems as strong as ever.

I'm sorry Doctor but I'm going to have to disagree with you regarding Collins. On the face of it Collins made a couple of last ditch blocks and a few eyecatching headed clearances but where were they from? Inside our box. If we play Collins it's virtually a free pass for teams to get dangerous balls into our box. He is captain, he sets the defensive line and we're always too deep and we always give other teams enough time and space to play because he's scared of getting done on the half turn or forwards running into any space behind him. On top of that, as a centre half you also have to cover behind the full back on your side and who was playing right sided centre half tonight and left RHJ cruelly exposed along with Woolford in front of him, the poor lad. And which full back has been left exposed in the past few weeks? Hendrie at left back when Collins was playing on that side. The Mansfield centre halves and Famewo showed Collins how to mark a forward tonight by getting tight and not giving him a second and our opponents kept a high line. It's alright Collins looking good by making those last ditch tackles and headed clearances but that's his strength. He steers our defence to play that way but it does nothing for our all round team play and how we set up without the ball. We end up defending phase three desperately because phase one and phase two of our defensive responsibilities are not being dealt with adequately due to the reasons above. He may have been a good player and still a good player of sorts, but the brutal truth is that he's too slow to play League Two football, nothing can make up for it. You're either quick enough or you're not, anything else compromises the team and sadly in our squad he's one of at least three or four..

After reading Bigdogs comments made me think that whenever I have seen Famewo play the defensive part of his game has been excellent and I would like to see him partner Whitmore with a Hendrie at right back and a fully fit Fix at left back.

Give us more pace at the back and two full backs capable of getting forward and putting crosses in. Not sure about Fox longer term but his displays at end of last season suggested he is more than capable of playing at this standard.
