Daubney warned you nigh on twelve months ago. Don't test the Footballing Gods. We've worn their patience thinner than a podcaster's skin and now we may have to pay the price. We're damned, make no mistake. The proof? Paul Hurst, free of their curse, only went and won away with a clean sheet in division three. Precisely three things he could only dream of at Town, where us shape, previously uncomprominsing and resilient like that of a Humber Fort, went full blancmange. What more proof do you want, Alex Hunt going to division three as well?

We'll blame t'internet and social media for amplifying the moaning and the whining and upsetting the Gods. The almost constant moaning and whining. As a local author texted me eloquently yesterday "Things are bad enough on a Saturday afternoon. This is every flipping day now". Yes, we're at that stage in the cycle when even an innocuous club tweet to raise awareness for a local charity will be met with replies of "SIGN SOMEONE YOU USELESS SHITS". Or the owners get stick for running the club sustainably. Don't mention BCorp or scotch eggs. Start rumours instead like Artell's lost the dressing room. He can't have, Hursty lost it in October. We can't be far off the high tide mark of someone worrying that being a bit excrement might harm season ticket renewals.

But it's not just a defeat to Tranny that fuels the whining. This is a fanbase that has had two promotions in twenty-six years. A sizeable chunk spent half the season looking to get rid of the manager in one, and in the other wanted to get rid of him a week before the promotion. What about last year, one of the most famous in the history of the club? More whining because we wasted momentum in the league or some shite. And when there's no other outlet available and seemingly nothing to moan about, let's have a whine targeting club staff for being female or the crap advertised salary for the tea boy position.

And the whiners still haven't learned that form is the key with players. There are few, if any, crap players. No, we lose a game or two and the whole team needs to be cleared out. How can you be watching football for so long, letting it consume every brain cell and still have so little idea what is going on? I bet you wanted to put Luke Waterfall on furlough as well didn't you? Look back at the relegation team of 2021. The player that these experts, who think Mullarkey and Rodgers need to go now, thought was the problem was Waterfall. Turns out that he was actually the best player in that side based on the next two seasons.

It's not just the social media. We have fans that leave games earlier than ever under the new manager. This when their team has a recent history of repeatedly pulling off sensational late comebacks. Who's your favourite? I love the guy with the seat up after 70 minutes. A performative swagger with the shoulders back and the head held high with two replica kit-wearing kids trailing confused in his wake. "Where are we going Dad?" "Down the Avenue to get my Grimsby Till I Die tattoo removed, that's flipping where."

If we get relegated again, it couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of melodramatic cry babies. And what would be so bad about relegation. "Oh but the club won't survive another relegation". Have you forgotten that we increased the fanbase each time we have gone down. Whiners like winning and we might win a few games back in the Bananarama. The last thing we need right now are a string of good results. Good results might put us in the hunt for division three. Where we'd be at, or closer to, our ceiling. The closer we get, the less winning there will be and the more moaning we'll hear. UTM.

I read CA it has some decent articles but the vast majority on there appear to be exiles which means they are detached from the local mood. When you live work and socialise around this area the views on the current goings on at BP are very downbeat at present. In August the views were all positive and I and many others expected a play off charge not another relegation battle.

We are overacting and wrong to whine after all we are only the biggest shitshow defensively in my 59 years of watching , have recently suffered our worst home defeat since 1947, have an unfathomable inflow and outflow of players , are relying on two other teams being worse than crap to not get relegated to non league for the third time in 13 years , a ground that’s falling apart , a new manager who we hope knows what he is doing but we are for from knowing ,a recruitment specialist who has helped us sign two decent players out of  20 so far,a ceo who loves it so much and thinks we are so wonderful she is leaving and a chairman who is worried about his children’s inheritance. Nothing to whine about at all really.

The biggest worry is the fans , you know the heartbeat of the club ? , have put more money in over the last 3 years than anyone, even our wise owners, could of expected!!!!!!

They own the club , this excrement show sits firmly with them .

I like Codalmighty but I think that diary entry is miles off the mark. As a fanbase, we've had a bigger and longer lasting fall from grace than most.  As correctly pointed out we've only had two promotions in 25 seasons with plenty of relegations, plenty of relegation battles and virtually no good league seasons in the FL. For a club that had spent far more time in the Championship and L1 than in L2, this in itself would be difficult to stomach. However, even during the promotions seasons we never actually challenged at the top of the table and other than Slade's team in 05/06 we haven't actually found ourselves even close to the automatic promotion places in the last few weeks of the season in ANY division since the turn of the century. Considering this is also the worst period during the club's long history and at our lowest ever league level for large parts of it, it is a simply staggering fact.

Despite this, finally being free of the millstone around the club's neck which was Fenty's mismanagement and benign loans plus the amazing two weeks in the play offs saw the club and fanbase have some renewed optimism for the first time in years. Two seasons in a row of record season ticket sales showed that there was an appetite to build on what looked like a new dawn for the club. A respectable league campaign last season (although I think people forget how bad we were at times last season) coupled with a once in a lifetime FA cup run and the proceeds that came with it meant expectations were as high as they've been for many years.

In my opinion the fanbase this season is in a position summed up well by John Cleese's famous saying "It's not the despair, I can stand the despair. It's the hope." We went in to this season expecting to at least equal last season's league campaign but, with the help of some additional and unexpected money, hopefully build on it to finally have a crack at reaching the L2 play offs for the first time in 18 years. To then find ourselves at the end of January with only six wins all season anxiously looking over our shoulder in the hope that Sutton and FGR don't pick up too many points is absolutely galling. All the factors that have gone in our favour in the last 18 months yet we're just as shite as ever with a squad full of players who, barring Danny Rose, wouldn't be missed and would in the most part be quickly forgotten.

I'm not one that believes our natural position is flitting between the Championship and L1. The footballing landscape has changed so much and the money involved these days is so astronomical that it just isn't realistic. As a provincial town suffering more than most from post-industrial decline, there's also little chance of major investment into the club coming from anywhere other than local lads done well. But we should be able to compete in L2 even without the aid of footballing fortune like the FA cup run. That we're not yet teams like Harrogate, Accrington and Barrow, all of whom get attendances less than half of ours, are regularly giving us footballing lessons and leaving us for dust in the league table is hard to take. Really, gut-wrenchingly hard to take and, as we all supposedly follow this club for fun and enjoyment, you'd forgive even the most ardent fan for questioning what is the point?

Great point about automatic promotion chances. Once since 1991 would be my guess.

They still need to publish the final Fenty article , I'm sure that would act as a decent smokescreen to our current plight.
