This is our 13th season in League since our relegation in 2004. How does our first 13 games this time compare to previous campaigns?

2005/06: W 7 D 3 L 3 GD +9 Pts 24
2022/23: W 6 D 4 L 3 GD +6 Pts 22
2016/17: W 6 D 2 L 5 GD +1 Pts 20 - Paul Hurst resigned 1 game later.
2004/05: W 5 D 3 L 5 GD +4 Pts 18
2019/20: W 5 D 3 L 5 GD +4 Pts 18 - Michael Jolley "mutual consented" 2 games later.
2017/18: W 5 D 3 L 5 GD -3 Pts 18
2006/07: W 4 D 3 L 6 GD -7 Pts 15 - Graham Rodger sacked 4 games later.
2020/21: W 4 D 3 L 6 GD -10 Pts 15 - Ian Holloway resigned 6 games later.
2023/24: W 3 D 5 L 5 GD -3 Pts 14
2018/19: W 3 D 3 L 7 GD -9 Pts 12
2007/08: W 2 D 5 L 6 GD -8 Pts 11
2009/10: W 3 D 1 L 9 GD -14 Pts 10 - Mike Newell sacked at this point.
2008/09: W 0 D 6 L 7 GD -20 Pts 6 - Buckley games 1-6. Watkiss 7-9. Newell 10-.

Firstly it's interesting to see the bald, useless teacher in at 1st, 4th & 6th.

Hurst's 2 previous League Two starts (both following promotion) are in at 2nd & 3rd.

This campaign ranks at 9th. And interestingly we're a point worse off than we were under both Rodger & Holloway at this point who departed shortly after.

There were 2 seasons where we were worse off and the manager saw out the entire season. In both cases the manager (Buckley & Jolley) had taken over the previous season in difficult circumstances and steered the club to safety.

Not a particularly helpful comparison given the differing variables in each of those seasons ie. players, standard of teams played against, budgets, injuries etc etc.

Not reminiscing about Slade by any stretch but he had us mid table and then in the play offs in the midst of that huge tax debt

You'd think Hurst the season has had all the advantages of more than 2 years in charge and his own squad to use.
This is the main disappointment this season , the shackles was supposed to be coming off

Slade’s contract had run out and he was technically unemployed. He had a young family to support. Did you expect him to just sit there as unemployment approached and not do anything to find alternative income once 31st May 2006 came along?

I know it fits your narrative but one man is to blame for Slade walking, and the same man was to blame for the beginning of the end when Hurst left…we all know the story and the truth about Slade and Fenty, contract negotiations etc…

Added to which, Slade had been absolutely crucified for his style of football by a large and vociferous portion of our support so an offer from Yeovil was probably a no brainer for him.

Miss Scunthorpe. Not a beauty pageant, just sound advice.
