Not a huge amount to be read into here, other than perhaps a sizeable gap between numbers 16 and 22, and Kamil Conteh making a stake for the highest squad number to have featured in a Town league game. Can anyone beat 42?

Squad numbers mean nothing these days do they?  Players have their preferred numbers and that's it.

Clifton, for example. He would easily be a No 7, 8, 10 in old money.  His homage to Terry Fleming continues and it's nice to see.

Does seem a bit weird having one of the 'keepers with No 12 though.

Julien Lamy was 42 in the ill-fated 20/21 season yet he wasn't even the highest number that season.  That went to Joe Adams with 45.

I quite like to see keepers as a 12 or 16. Conteh is an odd one, I guess he's a modern 4 or old fashioned 6. A few decent numbers still up for grabs, 16-20 for example.

Might Conteh have wanted 6, been told he can't have it and so opted for 42 because 4+2=6?

Several players at other clubs have done similar. Somebody (I can't for the life of me remember who) even had a little plus sign on their shirt between the 2 numbers.

16 vacated by Alex Hunt who goes for 29 occupied by Ryan Taylor for the last two years, again probably a personal preference.

I'm gonna guess with Conteh that it's a case of 4+2=6 in the Ivan Zamorano 1+8 style, easier than fighting Luke Waterfall for the No 6 I guess...

I believe the number 12 shirt in local league  football was retired in respect when I stopped playing.
But I did win the best ‘Lino’ and net putter upper’ three years running 😉

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

Do all clubs have The British Red Cross on the number or is that just us?

Yeah. Official Charity Partner of the EFL last season and this season.

Can't remember it last season though, but all clubs will have it on their numbers.
