Bury FC are set to play their first league fixture at Gigg Lane for 4yrs in the North West Counties Premier League tomorrow against Glossop North End. Apparently they’ve sold around 4000 tickets which is incredible for that level (Step 9).

Fantastic to see them back but the level isn't really relevant to the attendance, that's just their supporter base as a historic ex-league club and it being their first game back as a reformed club. Phoenix clubs always experience a bounce in attendances too, look at Macclesfield, higher attendances than they got in the football league. I'm sure Bury will whizz through to the Conference North and be knocking on the football league within a decade

Come on the Shakers. Be great to see them back in the league after all the excrement they've been through.

And those at the higher reaches of the English game, STILL allow clubs to go to the wall and brush it all under the carpet, as long as the premier league continues to be ‘the best league in the world’ and they have their comfy seats on their hospitality days, then why should they care about the demise of a professional club that only draws in 2-3000 a week (Bury, Macclesfield, Darlington, aldershot, etc etc)

With a crowd of 5400. Not bad for a North West Counties League Premier Division fixture (the same level as the Northern Counties East League Premier .... which both Bottesford Town and Barton Town participate).

Batch, K.Moore, Waters, Wiggington, Crombie, Brolly, Ford, Drinkell, Mitchell, Cumming, Kilmore. D.Moore, Stone, Liddell. ....1979/80..... now that WAS a team.
