As much as the running goal tally is appreciated how are looking as a team? Good passing? Good defending? how did the penalty come about? some of us are stuck at work and need our fix!

Pleasing to see we’ve managed three headed goals. The GY Borough players seen here in a motivational huddle discussing how to better handle our aerial threat in the second half.

Trialist A is a goalkeeper, so a youngster, you’d presume. B looks to be a striker. A big man, perhaps?

Another for Pyke. I have a feeling he could be the surprise package of the season (based on absolutely nothing).

Based on your 'absolutely nothing' , it doesnt matter who is the surprise package, as long as we have one or two regularly hitting the back of the net

Long way to come to try win a contract, fair play to the lad especially at 18. Could be one for the future that we sign and let go out on loan for the season and he comes in next season to challenge.

Would make sense if we only have Cartwright on loan for the season. Also considering we didnt retain any of the youngsters from last seasons Youth team, he would still be able to play for this seasons Yoof team (i think)

Good all round performance and pretty clinical in front of goal.

In the post-match interview PH said they were not actively looking for anyone else, but that might be because there are already another one or two coming in that are not announced yet, right? He put paid to the Clifton rumours, too.

In the post-match interview PH said they were not actively looking for anyone else, but that might be because there are already another one or two coming in that are not announced yet, right? He put paid to the Clifton rumours, too.

Amazing to be 10 days into pre season and be close to the final squad.  It means we can use loans if any injuries hit over the summer.   I don’t remember being in this situation for many years

I think AB assembled the 97/98 squad quite early with the Oster cash?

Not as much business as we’ve done this time mind.

Kudos to the club posting highlights and interviews on YouTube. After season tickets, shirts and pre season tickets cannot afford Mariners Player just yet, so really appreciate the free content.

I don't think he put paid to the clifton rumours at all, he said he'd heard them himself (along with the Glennon ones) but that nothing had been heard from any club about them.

He was noticeably more dismissive of rumours linking Green to York.

Anyone else think that Harvey Rodgers looked decent last night? I think we’ve got a good player there, he looked very composed and his passing was excellent, I’m looking forward to seeing more of him.

Grimsby and proud!

So difficult to take a lot from the friendlies, especially the first one when the lads have only been back in training for a week.

However it was equally difficult to be discouraged by that.  Don't want to drone on forever about a friendly but in brief:

  • First half was 4-4-2 with Clifton and Vernam wide, Rose and Wilson up top.  Second half it was Pyke down the middle with George and Eisa wide.  Second half definitely looked more fluid and suited our players, however 'Boro tired badly.
  • Rose is going to adored by our fans.
  • See above, change Rose for Conteh.  So comfortable on the ball in tight positions, wants the ball at every opportunity and will demand it.
  • Efete looked absolutely on it.  Couple of really good runs, one resulting in a great cross and goal (Rose).
  • Full-backs were high, again take note of the opposition but I definitely think we'll be seeing a lot of deliveries from our full-backs with the wingers adopting a more inverted style.
  • Eastwood did fine, had very little to do but what he did (mainly have to distribute the ball) was done well.  Trialist lad had barely anything to do.
  • Mullarkey played right-back and overlapped well, looks very comfortable on the ball for a big lad.
  • Adan George was very tricky, few times he tied himself up and his end product let him down but definitely potential.
  • Credit to 'Boro for how they played, especially the first half.  Whilst we were never in danger of them producing a pre-season upset, they played the better stuff for the first 45.
  • Finally, hope the person who collapsed and was taken away by ambulance is ok.

In the post match interview Hurst mentioned a striker in his previous spell that arrived as fourth choice, but scored lots of goals in pre season and went on to score lots in the season. I am thinking it could be Alan Connell?

Surprised by the shirt number set up, double digits hard to make out.
Will have to rely on hairstyle and boot colour to identify anyone up the far end 😄

Won't be Connell as he signed under Woods and then Scott/Hurst sold him the following summer.  He came back under Hurst in 2014/15 but was a pale shadow of himself and definitely didn't score lots of goals...

Can only thing of LJL.  Arrived in the January, probably behind a few others in the squad at that time (Hannah, Brodie, Cook), can't remember how his pre-season went though six months later.

Yeah I wondered about that, connell would have been my guess but presumably not from other posts. Podge scored loads pre season but surely can't have been 4th choice pre season so wouldn't have been him.

I assumed Podge tbh. Would've been behind Bogle, Pittman perhaps, though cant remember who else we had apart from Tomlinson was it on loan.

Unless Glennon has undergone some dramatic cosmetic surgery since the end of last season, I'm fairly confident the first one wasn't him.

Efete crossed for the first.
Glennon corner for the second.
Glennon cross for the third.
