Are they an upgrade on Crocombe ?
Time will tell

I think you have to put some faith in the manager on this one. Neither are what you’d call seasoned, experienced ‘keepers, despite Eastwood no longer being a youngster at 26, but with a month still to go until the start of the season, you’d have to assume that these are well-planned, considered signings, and not panicky “plan b” type options.

Eastwood’s had a slightly odd career, but this is the third time Hurst has signed him and he usually gets those ones more right than wrong. Hurst was happy to play him in League Two as far back ago as 2019, when at Scunny, and thought enough of him to bring him here when we were properly up shít creek 18 months later.

For what it’s worth, I thought he looked very solid at the time before he was injured. His career has stalled somewhat since then, but I think there’s sufficient evidence of his potential for us to take a punt.

As for Cartwright, who looks as though he will take the number 1 shirt, he’s played for England at both under-18 and under-20 level and that shouldn’t be sniffed at. Given the very nature of goalkeeping, to pick-up youth England caps you have to be exceptional within your age range. There will be plenty of English goalkeepers who go on to have very good careers in the game who never achieve such an accolade - there are several playing regularly in the Championship now who haven’t.

Yes, he’s young and inexperienced but the fact that he’s done so well at youth level suggests he’s no shrinking violet, as does the fact he’s already been trusted to play in the Championship by Hull. Time will tell, but I suspect we may have an exceptional talent on our hands. I very much doubt Hurst would be so seemingly relaxed for swapping the relatively safe and steady hands of Max Crocombe for an unproven youngster were that not the case.

Looking at the picture, unless  Crudson is standing in a hole, they appear to be pretty tall lads.

Don't know a lot about Cartwright other than his youth pedigree.

I thought Eastwood was decent when he was here before. Seem to remember his kicking was suspect though.

Are there any keepers whose kicking  ISN'T suspect?

Jake Eastwood is pretty tall himself, well over 6ft and he looks small next to Cartwright.

Good move this both pushing each other on , can’t wait to see Harvey’s old man reacting if any one has a pop at his lad. Heard so many good things about Harvey looking toward to seeing him playing
