Is underway. Beyond the usual business, it looks as though there are some new drainage systems being installed which should hopefully help with postponements and its general condition next season. Looks like it’s being done by Botham’s Prestige who seem to be specialists in this sort of thing, working with Sheffs Weds and United, Barnsley, Rotherham and Donny amongst others.

I’m the sort of saddo who finds this kind of thing quite interesting…

Looks like the same principle as the drainage on a golf course, which makes sense as it’s grass !

You’re not alone! Love a bit of tractor watch. Interesting to hear a few times from JS and AP that they eventually want a 5g hybrid pitch.

Nothing new there; a good number of Mike Newell’s reprobates were no stranger to a hoe.

Hope they remember where the sprinkler system pipes are!

Makes a welcome change to the groundsman and his assistant with forks and rakes in the close season.

We should have a fantastic playing surface when we kick off the new season.

There is no doubt that Lincoln have more and better tractors than we do.

They also use them to fetch their stranded fans home when they try to get to Blundell Park in bad weather.

Drainage going in all over the pitch by the looks of it. This should hopefully represent a tangible step forward in the quality of the pitch - the first drainage upgrade since about 1905, isn’t it?

Yeah. Me and Grantham Mariner drove around Lincoln on the A46 bypass to get to Cleethorpes for that game in  December 2005. The roads were fine.

Ah yes, the infamous Blizzard of 05, such treacherous conditions that effected only the routes from Lincoln to cleethorpes, stopping swathes of Lincoln fans in their tracks, rendering their attempts at visiting Blundell Park futile…I remember it well…

A town win, a drive back to Lincoln in clear conditions and little snow to be greeted with Lincoln City’s answer to Michael Fish in my then local, informing me that travel was dangerous, impossible, and you’d needed to have been Sir Ranulph Fiennes to get there…before raining on his parade, or snow if you prefer and telling him that I’d been at the match and managed to get get back safely in my knackered Rover without so much as a skid or swerve…

You're being a bit harsh mate, it's a genuine medical condition round Lincoln that the locals are indeed allergic to snow.  They had to cancel the christmas market a couple of years ago after 0.2mm of snow devastatingly hit the bailgate. Terrible scenes.

Lincoln has a long-standing engineering industry.  Maybe they make tractors and get “Mates rates” for re-doing their pitch?

Please feel free to discus. ☺️

intercourse off! No chance he’d spend money on buckets and spades, even with a huge discount, he’s just make them use a wheelie bin and an existing shovel…

There seems to be a few subtle digs at the old regime.
Saying all about the clay still under the pitch, how old the pitch itself is etc etc.
perhaps we didn’t realise what an amazing task it must have been for the ground staff under Fenty !!

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

You’d certainly hope that we’ll see fewer postponements for water-logging than we have in recent years. Particularly in August - 3 or 4 abandonments in the last 5 years or something daft.

It's got to be better hasn't it!   I wonder how close the training pitches are to the new Blundell Park surface, you'd think having an identical twin to practise on would give us an advantage at home.....and now I'm thinking of a huge training complex with multiple fields with grass at different heights so the lads can train on a surface each week close to what they'll be playing on for each away game.  If I win the euromllions tonight please don't let me buy the club, the only signings this summer will be Claas and John Deere.....

100%!

And the wheels only really came off when the groundstaff were furloughed and Ian Fleming was given the job card of looking after the pitch.

I'm sure Fleming did what he could, but a groundsman he never was.  Mike Phillips and his very small team were literally keeping that pitch together by a thread, but once the final thread has snapped...

Most recent photo I’ve seen is a couple of weeks old now. A couple of bare patches, but should have spot on come the Hull game on the 15th July. The real test will be how well it holds up during the season, but there’s been some significant drainage work done so I’m fairly hopeful it will be more resilient (and we can avoid yet another August abandonment).

It must be a fking nightmare to replace a pitch with seed in May, given the lack of rain and amount of sun. If it looks anything like, then they’re geniuses.

It must be a fking nightmare to replace a pitch with seed in May, given the lack of rain and amount of sun. If it looks anything like, then they’re geniuses.

Generally that’s the start of the growing season but I accept there has been a lack of rain. Obviously the sprinklers will have got some hours in

The most memorable thing about an otherwise completely forgettable night away at Barrow last season was the quality of the pitch which is remarkable given its location in one of the wettest regions of the country.

Looks like we will have a surface to rival it this season.

We have our own water supply now, so no problem on that front. One of first things they installed was that huge water tank in the Ponny corner.

I came up from Sleaford via Horncastle and I couldn’t get past Belmont, all I did though was drop down towards Rasen and it was fine. Any Lincoln fans who couldn’t do it were too busy choosing what PL game to watch in their living rooms.

We have had our own water supply for quite a while now. I assume the water tank was installed to provide a back-up and regular flow for the newly installed sprinkler system.

Pretty sure it's just fed by the water main. The tank is just so there's enough back pressure for the sprinklers to run smoothly isn't it?

I imagine we are going to put a lot of emphasis on playing on the floor, with quick tempo football. Therefore a nice home pitch such help that. However some away days will be tricky I'm sure.

I could be wrong, and often am, but I thought we had installed our own water supply, which would be a borehole if correct.

I can recall reading on here that somebody confirm the ground's water supply came from its own borehole.

I was under the impression that the borehole had left the Town and was now living in Liverpool or Spain !!! 😉

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

You are correct. Somebody associated with BP informed me 20 years ago that we had our own borehole ( artesian well).

Surely with our new found Green Town credentials we should be collecting the rain water from the ponny and main stand roofs now instead of using groundwater
