No team news as such but, just tuned in and unless I need a new tv, the pitch looks like it’s been to turkey and had a hair transplant. Fair play to the grounds man/person/microwave

That's a very strong bench. Hurst not shy in dropping anybody. OR Resting.

Yep that bench is very good. To be fair though, there isn't a single player in the starting XI that doesn't deserve their place.

Mo Sylla missing for Hartlepool, apparently he's their Green/enforcer type in the middle. Could play into our hands that if they've got nobody to steam into tackles and we cam get Hunt on the ball, hopefully we can keep the ball on the deck and move it around at pace.

Same old same old marking. No one marking the runner, all defenders stood in a line marking one man, unmarked monley hanger on the penalty spot to easily slot the ball in the net

After a good first 5 minutes, this is an absolute mess against a really poor team. Can’t see any method, the shape and selection looks all wrong and the defending and ball retention is absolutely dire.

As this was the home game against a weak team over Easter, this was the wrong team selection in my view. 3 centre backs needless as well.

Almost nothing to play for. Full attendance at home. Against 2nd bottom.
What would you do? I'd play my best attacking 11 possible and try put on a show to make the fans want to come back again and again. Poor Lloyd has no support and 3-4 times we've half gone forward and our players have had to stop and pass backwards because we're not putting men forward.

Not Hurst to blame. Players have had their flip flops on since Brighton and who can blame them really? They’d have needed to have won every game to have had a chance of doing anything in the league this season. It’s proper crap this though.

Agree with Croft on this. People paid to see this and Easter weekend is always a boosted gate, they need to sort this out and deliver a performance. Not good enough.

Worse than the performance at their place, and that was absolutely dog. I don’t understand the tactics at all. Hartlepool are dreadful, we’re under no pressure, a big crowd at home and we’ve got 5 at the back and 1 up front?! What’s the point in that?

I can’t go today but watching on line, the 2nd half will need to be better. As much as I think “us shape” isn’t that good, us passing movement off the ball and work rate isn’t good either. They are there for the taking at the back.

Midfeild not great today. I like green but unless its hoofball then i dont know What he can bring and gav cant pass 😂 hunt wants to get on the ball but he has no one with him to play with as to why morris would be a good option to bring on. He had 3 good games on the bounce not get why he was drop

Why so many at the back. Lloyd has no chance. Maybe we could pass it to those in black and white.

Midfield is playing too deep so we resort to hoofing the ball up to Lloyd who gets bullied off the ball every time. There is nothing in the middle to connect the front....3?... I think to central midfield.

How many forwards have we on the pitch / Hurst picked this team. Supposed to be a home match .This team couldn't score against Ragarse Rovers. Dire.

Efete is not and never will be a right wing back. Has no idea how to make himself an option. Amos is no better though
39th minute and we've made intercourse all
Effete isn’t a footballer let alone a wingback Hurst is an absolute joke, same old same old at home and yet you Hurst lovers lap it up

Hurst has created an overload with the formation.. we've got three on one at the back. Not how to win games. Green sluggish and poor, Holohan wasteful and poor, Amos playing like a full back when he's wing back.. need to get McAtee, Cllifton and Emmanuel on, take Green and Holohan off and sacrifice Smith..

Shocking defending such a simple overlap then we all retreat into the 6yrd box to mark one player leaving the rest of the ares empty. First long throw to near post we flick iot on to the back and not one player within 10 yrds. Far too defensive, and easy for Hartlepool now just sit back and hoof it if any pressure (whats that) is put on the defence. This is Hurstball at its best, these are 2nd bottom with worst defence in league and we havn't really laid a glove on them

Maybe people expect some pride as sportsman playing at home in front of a good crowd to perform. If they put in even half the amount of effort as they did into the cup games then we'd probably be in a much better league position. Though I guess we had players who only played in cup games or only turned up for them. The weird defensive formation hasn't helped because we are getting over crowded by their press in their half but if they put in a shift we probably wouldn't be losing already to a poor team. I feel like expecting your team to play better at home is the bare minimum expectation as a football fan. Not demanding they win the league, just "can we try to win a few more home games please lads?"

Give over.. four defenders covering one striker at the near post and leaving one completely unmarked cost us..Poor marking in the box has cost us all season.. defence of ball watchers not just one man..

Wrong. Re watch it again. I think you'll find he was positioned perfectly where his manager would have wanted him to be. Smith was caught miles out so he tucked inside and tried to cover the front post / closest part of the area to the goal.

How many people do you know who put max effort into work when they’re: i)in the last few days before their holiday or ii) in their notice period? Just because you’ve paid to watch it doesn’t mean their motivation will be any different.

How many people get to make a living as a footballer? In any case I doubt people would be happy to pay me for services if I only did the absolute bare minimum, I'm sure that might work for Barry who works for Royal Mail and sorts just enough mail so that his manager doesn't complain but any sort of service you get paid a lot of money for people expect an effort. We aren't talking about menial labour. Do you hire a traveller to do your driveway or do you pay a reputable company who take pride in their work?

I’ll be generous to Hurst and say he was having a little experiment, at least he now knows it didn’t work and can revert back to what does, and there it is a goal.

Really? What I saw was a typical Hurst formation and defensive team selection playing 541 that had once again not worked shockingly and he's been forced to change his formation and actually bring on attacking and creative players...

| In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions. Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them. GOD |

Hurst is going to have a busy summer going on this.
He needs to use the money what he has (surely there will be a good chunk of money for next season) we have been poor at home all season and Paul Hurst needs challenging on this instead of skirting around this, the absolute minimum aim next season should be playoffs, if we don’t reach that then questions need to be asked and changes made.

Really, he wasn't much of a clown when we beat 5 teams in the FA cup who were all in higher leagues than us. However, we definitely need quite a few better quality players next season.

I've never been a Hurst fan. I've tried all season not to call for his job after he suprised me last season with entertaining attacking football, but I've had enough. Sod the lucky FA Cup run that made us feel all warm and fuzzy inside Hurst out. I can't sit watching another team of skillless grafters and Under 14s next season playing like the away team hoping for a point at home

This largely National League standard team have done us proud in the playoffs and the cup, but they are not good enough for a L2 promotion push.
So we need a pretty big transfer window or else I fear it could be a relegation scrap for us next season.

The same as game after game we do ok getting forward but no end product from their half clearances they blocked every shot, us we were stood 10 yrds away from all of theirs, Efete usual: great one min then hopeless the next. Only regular goalscorer sat on the bench all game, it makes you want to

In a state of shock.
Too much talk in the week about next season, when we have not mathematically secured our L2 place.
That’s complacency, in my opinion.
They had five shots and scored 4!! Come on, lads.

So then, would any of the 13 red crossers on the season ticket poll like to offer some reasoning behind their kind actions? Do you honestly believe that the negative comments on this thread are conducive to a high renewal rate?

Well, there’ll now be lots of histrionics and over reactions and abuse, but even if we put that aside, today, and the home form generally is way below par. Baffling tactical choice from the off, and terrible defending, passing, movement and ball retention. Trying to keep some perspective and balance, but I think it’s pretty clear we’ll need a serious upgrade on half a dozen or so players if we want to compete next year. Just a shame that the support this season has been fantastic, but the season ticket holder would have every reason to say - you know what? I’ve had really poor return for my money. Big improvement needed if we are to salvage momentum and positivity, because that was tripe today.

First half it wasn’t working, everyone could see that and changes should have been made 20 mins in. As it was we got back into it and looked decent early 2nd half, we were all over them, then the ref - who weirdly let nearly every offence go in the game aside from this one- was adamant it was a pen when it was clearly outside the area. From then on we were chasing and they had it easy on the counter. We can play it on the floor really well, but we can’t penetrate defences and when we do nobody busts a gut to get on the end of things. We have no natural finishers willing to gamble on a chance. 17 shots 1 goal….same every game. Fair play to pool, they played proper footy and looked far better than relegation candidates, they took every opportunity really well too.
Not surprised people left with 20 mins still to go.

Well said - all the effort should go into making Blundell Park a fortress, why the hell were we trying to rest Clifton, McAtee etc for a home game?

This — and every other match from hereon in — is a dead rubber. Our season was effectively over the moment we lost at Brighton.
So then, with a home game and a bumper crowd turning up to BP on Good Friday, and a team in the relegation zone and the worst defence on the road in the whole league to face... we play five defenders and a holding midfielder.
What exactly where we looking to gain from that?
I don't need a degree in football analytics to know that if we'd played two strikers from the off, we'd have given their defence something to think about. Instead we were totally anaemic. We offered literally nothing in the first half.
A braver manager would've changed it 25 minutes in, when Hartlepool had quite clearly sussed us out.
Changes come at half time and, to be fair, they worked. We got back in it at 1-1, looked okay... and then the penalty. Seen one screen shot where it looks on the line, and another where it looks a yard outside.
Either way, when we go 2-1 down, as we did v Salford, we went to pieces. Too fragile.
A Hartlepool supporting mate watched us play Crawley off the park and feared today. He was mega impressed with Emmanuel and Clifton that night. Where were they today?
I have always supported Hurst, especially at times when it's got tough. I'm not changing my tune on the basis of today although I think it's fair he also comes in for criticism when it's truly warranted. I don't think there can be any excuses today, other than he got it badly wrong from the start.
What on earth is the point of signing players like Mikey O'Neill and Dickson-Peters if they're never going to be trusted in a dead rubber? As for Orsi, what more can he do to get a game? McAtee and Taylor starting on the bench...
It's not the end of the world but our home form is genuinely awful. That's 9 wins in our last 42 League 2 games at Blundell Park (including the 20/21 season).
1878 talk about continuous improvement, and I'm sure there's lots of work going on behind the scenes that we're not privy to. But we've certainly gone backwards since about October. Cup run aside, this squad now looks ragged and more like a bunch of strangers thrown together rather than a team.
We've had a lot of games to play this season. You'd think we'd have built rhythm and partnerships off the back of that. But constant tinkering with the side has never allowed us to get into a flow.
We've got a few more games left this season for Hurst to work out how exactly he wants his side to play.

I don’t get this Easter schedule nonsense it’s only like playing Saturday/Tuesday in reality, plus we’re away to Donny which is closer to home for many of the squad.

Well said - all the effort should go into making Blundell Park a fortress, why the hell were we trying to rest Clifton, McAtee etc for a home game?
Because that's what Hurst does.

But we weren't really garbage we simply lack clever players and someone with to the ability to hit the target more often than not. We had a lot of blocked shots keeper saved a couple. We were too negative with starting lineup then chasing the the game for the last 45. Today came down to team selection. Agree with idea just use who is likely to be here next year surely after nearly 50 games he must know who he wants to keep and let go

Really, he wasn't much of a clown when we beat 5 teams in the FA cup who were all in higher leagues than us. However, we definitely need quite a few better quality players next season.
Keep on eating the beetroot mate, yeah we had a lucky cup run but it has papered over the cracks, if it wasn’t for our half decent away record we would be in a relegation battle, too many passengers today, genuinely worried about more embarrassment on Monday and next Saturday, after that I don’t care

I suspect one or two who have deals in place for next season may be made aware they could look elsewhere if they want to start games.

Were you watching from Spurn Point? The defending for their goals was garbage, the midfield could hardly string two passes together and up front we were cack.

I don't think we have played well at home all season. Even those we have won we haven't played that well. Hurst's selection sometimes amazes me for our home games. There are not many games that I have come home happy and more often than not have said enough is enough. OK the away games are different - it's a day out at least but the home games are becoming a waste of time. I have waited until this morning to try to calm down but have eventually decided that unless there is vast improvement in the selections and tactics in the few remaining home games I wont be renewing my season ticket. It will hurt me I know but enough is enough. Hurst might learn something if he started to read The Fishy.

With regard to 1878 I think too much time and money has been spent on trying to make the club a completely different organisation too quickly. I know some staff have been effectively forced out and some left because they weren't happy working there any longer but did we need to get so many new staff in new positions not just in the office but also added to the coaching staff and I still don't know what the new player recruitment manager has brought to the club. I appreciate some money needed spending on the ground but I don't really give a toss whether we are a A, B, C or D Corp. Club, I care what goes on on the pitch and all I have seen is the signing of young players from higher up the League that have probably never played at this level and all they get are a handful of substitute appearances and then never heard of again and signing other players that we have never heard of before. The owners need to realize that a Football Club is hugely different from any other type of Company and it lives or dies by what goes on on the pitch and if they don't want to lose a good proportion of new season ticket holders they need to start on improving the playing side of the club well before the start of next season hopefully.

You do realise that it is not the owners that select and sign new players for the club, because it looks like that's the way you see it?

Are you saying that Paul Hurst can sign anybody he wants and no restrictions on what he can pay in regard to transfer fee and wages and that the board have no say. 😲

What the frig are you on about? My point was the club should focus on the playing side more than the non playing side. At no point did I say that the board actually signed the players. Just a knob head response from someone who obviously has an agenda against me just for pointing out what an idiot he was when he kept rambling on we would win every game and stay up when Hurst came back when it was obvious there was no way we would stay up.

Then I suggest you edit your last paragraph so that it doesn't imply that.
