ASTONISHED ABOUT THE WONDER OF GRIMSBY

Football – A fourth division Team was the first english club that eliminated five higher ranked teams in the FA CUP.

Grimsby. In the motherland of football there is a football fairytale ongoing and the whole of England is sharing the excitement of a next episode taking place this coming Sunday. Five victories, always versus higher ranked teams – fourth division team Grimsby Town already made history in this FA CUP, which is held since 1871, and wants to add another chapter to this record.

In the last round the Mariners won 2:1 at FC Southampton in the eighth final, now they will visit on Sunday (15:15 hrs on DAZN *) Brighton and Hove Albion, who is another club from the Premier league. Once again teammanager Paul Hurst has no other choice than hoping for the morals of his team: “I’m realy very satisfied with the attitude of the team. No matter if a league game or a training session – nobody was saving his energy for the Brighton game lately”, said the 48 year old

The on-field-development of this 145 year old club has always been a reflection of the conditions of life ion Grimsby. While the city at the north-east-coast of England was one of the most important ports in the world until the years after the second world war, it has strongly lost the importance lately.

Parallel to this economic decline, also the back then first division club temporarily slided down to the fifth division. But now the success in the cup of the Mariners has caused in Grimsby, the twin city of Bremerhaven, an atmosphere of departure, which was missed for such a long period of time.

I've just read in the Mail that Paul Futcher was Danny Murphy's uncle and it will be a labour of love for him to comment on the Mariners today.

I never knew that and another nice touch.

Also in the Mail an interview with Orsi who says it is lovely living round here. That's exactly what we want to hear and the message we want to send out in the future.

He was born in Barnet and has lived in Florida and moved about a lot so that is nice to hear him being complimentary.

He is obviously mega excited by today's game so I hope he gets on the pitch.

I'd be truly amazed if he doesn't get on the pitch at some point!

Whilst it doesn’t say anything we haven’t read before in the past week, the journalist appears to have taken the time to research the article from various sources in a style that would put many of our sports journalists to shame.

Aaron Kahnert also points out that, despite the heroic display by the players at Southampton, the fans stole the show.
