I'm driving down to Surrey the weekend after next, somewhere I havn't driven before and was just wondering if anyone had a stand alone Sat Nav they'd be willing to lend me for the journey. I could use Goggle Maps but that doesn't half eat up your data and I don't have an unlimited data contract.

I'd be willing to collect it within a decent distance of Gy.

You can get Google Maps to cache routes (i.e. store them on your phone) so it doesn't use data while you are driving:

https://support.google.com/maps/answer/6291838?hl=en-GB&co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid

You wouldn't get traffic updates or notifications about any problems on the route ahead if you did this, but it is an option.

Cheers for that but it doesn't seem to work. I can follow the instructions up to where it says "At the bottom, tap the name or address of the place and then tap More and then Download offline map. If you searched for a place like a restaurant, tap More  and then Download offline map and then Download." but I can't see anywhere where it says More!

Just checked on my phone and instead of the 'More', click on the 3 dots to the top right of the screen. This gave me the option of downloading the offline map. Surrey would take up 270MB, so it tells me!

If, on your phone, you turn data off but have GPS on then you can use Google Maps without using any data. Has always worked for me .

Cheers. I didn't realise that. Just tested it getting home from work. Found my address whilst I was online, then turned data off and it took me home no problem.
