Thailand is a great country until you have a problem then you just the Farang.  Guess it depends where you are.  I like the north of the country a lot.


Always wanted to visit but never got around to it. Not sure I'd like to stay there full time but visiting would be good. Think that's a problem in East Asia in general when you're an expat, a welcome guest for most people until you're an inconvenience then you're just an annoying foreigner. There are levels to it of course, if you learn the language and social skills you can get by a lot better but you'll never be considered one of them.

Correct on all fronts. I am going to study Thai for a year, hopeful it will help me make inroads but yes, you are right, most Asian cultures I have experienced are quite closed; friendly, but exclusive. I lived in China a very long time and left liking the people, being impresed with the culture, hating the government and realising just how open-mided and accepting western societies generally are.
