Sadly it's a rumour we will never get the definite answer to but one that will gather momentum whilst we have no games or keep losing, just like the other rumours floating around at the minute.

Given that the old Stockport manager was sacked on the 27th October, and Dave Challinor left Hartlepool for Stockport on the 1st November, I think this is highly unlikely. It was pretty clear from an early stage that they’d made their minds up.

Beat me to it.

I'd say that it's highly unlikely that the job was ever advertised and this is one of those cases where the new manager was already lined up when the previous one was sacked.

I don't think for a moment that there was any truth in this at all and Stockport certainly got the best part of the deal with Challinor anyway

With regard to Stockport having already lined up that twit Challinor that wouldn't have stopped other managers/ex managers applying for the job as soon as they heard the previous manager had been sacked.

I think that sums it up nicely.  Always slightly amused when footballers/managers are hauled over the coals for trying to better themselves, be it for personal or financial reasons.  In virtually any other walk of life you're encouraged to look after number one as no-one else will.  

That said, I can't imagine Hurst applying for a job at Stockport.  He's clearly aligned with what the vision and values are for 1878.  He likes a project and arguably the project here is bigger than that at Stockport and if finances were a motivator, I imagine he's made a pretty penny from his pay-offs elsewhere in recent years.
