Interesting hour long documentary on the rebirth of Macclesfield FC on BBC iplayer, with some distinct parallels with our recent history
HEALTH WARNING - the only downside (and it is a major one) you have to put with Robbie Savage for an hour

Yeah I watched it, really feel for the Macc fans, not only did their club go the way it did but they now have to put up with Robbie Savage

"Falls to Arnold... Arnold! That's it! Thats it! He's sealed it! Grimsby Town are back in the football league!!! Just a minute to go and Nathan Arnold makes it 3-1! Look at the scenes behind the goal! Look at the relief! The agony is finally over!!!"

I don’t see Robbie Savage as a down side. He’s alright is Sav. Seems like a good and knowledgeable guy to me.

Here we go again . Uneducated Grimsby fans slagging someone off because of his character on a football field ..... He is a true gent who is passionate and extremely knowledgeable about the game .... I bet some of you think Coronation Street is real life too

I have a mate who knows him through Soccer am and they say he’s a genuinely lovely guy.

i enjoyed the Fletch & Sav on BT Sport which would be on just before an afternoon kickoff game.  i'm not sure why it was ended, maybe they wanted to go separate ways, but i enjoyed it, it reminded me of Saint & Greavies (the banter).

I also like Robbie on BtSport during the 3pm games, he makes me laugh (and is always winding up Chris Sutton and vice versa).

He's probably not everyone's cup of tea but there you go.

I watched it and thoroughly enjoyed it and I think what Savage and his mate are doing is great for Macclesfield.

Good on him.

I often think there are plenty of footballers out there who have earned a packet from the game and I wonder why more of them don't do something similar.

Not everyone is completely happy with how the new set up at Macc is operating. They've treated the existing Women's team very badly and making life difficult for grassroots teams in the town - https://mobile.twitter.com/GRFinMacc

Not everyone’s completely happy . Well what a surprise!
The guys rebuilt the facilities in less then 12 months during a pandemic when most people can’t get a tradesman for love or moneySpent £4m to date and has a tier 9 team with poor historic families base.
Our guys have spent £950k to acquire our club.
Good luck to both.

You're selling our new owners a bit short:

Improvements to the ground inside and out (fan zone, glass barrier in the Youngs, improvements to changing rooms and the pitch)
Improvements to the training ground including new Portakabins to give more space - and remember it's not 100% certain we'll stay at Cheapside
Investment in staff - new roles and new people
Investment in the team

I have no idea how much all of this cost and some of it will have been covered by increased income from bigger crowds but it's not like they're pocketing the cash and swanning off to Barbados!

My post wasn’t intended to be a dig at our new owners merely a benchmark for the commitment shown by the Macclesfield owners and what can be achieved in a short space of time

1878 have spent over £1m as they bought some other shares too. Then there is £1.5 of loans that they have committed. Cheapside improvements, the BP pitch, the Findus glass and all the other little improvements.

Like Macclesfield though, if you invest a bit into the product, people will come.

Chicken and egg isn't it. What comes first, investment or fans through the doors?

Macc fans seem to approve - are now getting gates of 3000 - 3500, would put them 7th in our division for home support
