How is he allowed to get away with that performance? Surely it needs looking into.
I’m not one to normally blame the officials for defeats but when it is so blatant it has to be looked into. Everyone of us knew we were playing against 12 in that match.

Incidentally he’s from Newark and we all know what that’s an anagram of.

Ref for the 4-0 reverse earlier this season. 3 penalties against us, including one which noone on the pitch appealed for

He was embarrassingly bad....I can't say anymore than that apart from that he needs striking off the register of competent EFL officials

Hurst should have a right moan about him in his post match interview, and say he never wants him to do one of our games again, well it works in the premiership.

Hurst was quite diplomatic to be fair

As was McKeown

Both of them highlighted the ref's poor decision making and also the lack of any explanation for his decisions

As Hurst said though, even if he admits he and his assistant(s) got it wrong on their equaliser, the goal will stand and we will still only have a point and not the three we by rights deserved

We’d get a fine and a points deduction and knowing our luck it would be just enough to send us down after a heroic end to the season

Let’s see how good his assessor is or will he be too busy looking at his framed signed vintage class of 92 shirt to see what a sh1t performance that was?

I doubt they will listen but the more the merrier. Sent mine too.
I don’t have twitter but it would be nice to ask Gary Neville how much that cost him as it’s as plain as the nose on his face that something wasn’t right about the officials.

I must admit I am still in shock about what I saw from the referee and the linesman today. I can honestly say thats the first time ever that the officials were clearly cheating it was unbelievable to watch to be honest. How they was getting away with it and everyone knew they was cheating its disgusting really. Would of been a win no doubt with fair officials I really hope something is done about this but it probably won't be. I have never been so angry watching a football match in my life

Do you genuinely believe the officials were "cheating" & if so what would be their motive?
I'm edging my bets to say that they were just not very good.
Maybe finishing chances & game management would have delivered three points??

I also was amazed by the ref’s awful decision making today. In fact I’d go as far as to say that it was as bad as I’ve ever seen. However, I don’t think he was consciously biased I just think he was totally incompetent. If he had had a good game then I don’t think anyone would have complained if he’d sent off Payne for sarcastically applauding him. I just feel he was totally and utterly out of his depth.

it wasn’t as bad as the Everton v Wimbledon game where Everton needed a win to stay up they was 2 nil down at half time.
And won 3 - 2 hans seagers dived over the ball and the penalty omg i think it was anders limpar.

And latterly Fashanu and co got done for taking bribes.

We put one in the net and had a one-on-one pulled back for a free kick... to us! Very, very questionable refereeing today.

Correct & also missed some guilt edged chances.
Failed to see out the game once again in the final minutes.
Not disputing the officials performance btw.

Agreed. Very, very curious decisions...

Let's not forget that it wasn't too long ago that both Juve and Milan were relegated after they were found guilty of giving refs backhanders to ensure they got last min penalties etc so a draw was translated into 3 points.

However...Two decisions the ref made today show he wasn't trying to ensure Salford win at all costs - their penalty appeal he waved on and deciding not to send Payne off.

That said, we had a good shout for a penalty which he wasn't interested in either.

We also had a goal chalked off;

An almost certain goal scoring opportunity pulled back for a free kick to us on the half way line. This was the most extraordinary refereeing decision I've ever witnessed (unless the whistle had already gone?);

He waved play on when Coke went down with a head injury, from which he was bleeding profusely;

He didn't book their player who committed the head injury to Coke (debatable admittedly as he stuck his head in);

He didn't award us a corner when their keeper took the ball a foot over the byeline;

He constantly penalised Matete when he was on the receiving end of fouls...etc...etc...

Like I say...very curious.

There was no penalty appeal for them. That should have been a free kick against and a yellow card for the player for simulation. I agree that Payne should have walked for that sarcastic clap. He had to make it believeable that he wasn’t bent though. I can’t excuse LJL’s sitter this week but the free kick incident and disallowed goal should have seen us home and hosed well before that. Not impressed by them at all today.

Agreed. He could have very easily given a penalty just after the Payne incident too.

The decision making got me too, he refused to stop the game when Payne was on the floor with an obvious head injury, covered in blood because Salford were attacking but then did stop the game with Clifton through on goal because two other players had a bit of grief after a challenge and then awarded us the freekick?!

I'd be interested to read feedback on the performance of today's ref from fans who have experience of refereeing - I don't have any, admittedly.

Were his decisions as bad and as bizarre as the majority on here all think?

I'd be very surprised if the answer is "no".

I know the calmer fans among us will claim he wasn't actually biased, just incompetent.

And normally I'm one of them. But on this occasion I think there was a bit of bias creeping in.

Firstly, imagine the fuss if, today, Salford had a goal disallowed; a player kicked in the head but no free kick; no penalty for the handball in the first half; no penalty for the shove on LJL; no free kick when Hanson was bundled over racing onto a long ball; no advantage played when through on goal...

Imagine if all those things went against Salford. With Neville, Scholes, Keane, whoever, sat in the stands, watching on, waiting to have their say on Sky Sports.

They have the power and the media presence to single out that referee and shame him, to the point where it could affect his confidence or even his career. And I'm sure he had that in the back of his mind.

I don't think he was a cheat. I just think he knew what outrage there would be if he overlooked anything that could be perceived a Salford free kick, hence why all 50/50 or even 60/40s in our favour went to them.

I'm glad he was brave enough and competent enough not to award them a penalty, but in the same breath he's bottled booking their player.

As for the offside shout, same principle at play. Imagine if the lino waved his flag only after the ball had gone in. There would have been utter chaos and a very unhappy Salford bench.

And an unhappy Salford bench, sadly, worried the referee a lot more than an unhappy Grimsby bench, and that I'm afraid was (and always will be) the difference whenever Salford play. They automatically put officials under pressure, before a ball has been kicked.

.

I don’t know how true it was but I saw something on Twitter that said Keane was in the front row of the stand with the other ex Man U players sat behind him.

I just think having such big characters (gobs) that close to you in a tiny empty stadium must be difficult to block out but as a ref he must do that. Who knows with 1,000 plus away fans in there things may have been different.

You could see the ref was a soft @rse as he bottled giving Payne a 2nd yellow for clapping the decision to book him.

I usually say that refs know the rules but nothing about the game, I’m not sure this clown knew either.

Roy Keane is the biggest twit ever to grace football. He should have been removed from the sport forever  for finishing Haalands  career and bragging about it but ends up on sky talking bollox

I blame the idiots that watch it

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

Bit of a myth, that. Haaland finished that match and played a few more before retiring with an injury to his other leg.

Still a twat, mind.
