Looks 4 - 3 -3 again and Spokes kept his place. Definite win from this team again, Williams on the bench if needed.

You can't really argue the lineup, after a win midweek

I don't mind Roy Keane making £60,000 a week. I was making the same when I was playing. The only difference was I was printing my own - Mickey Thomas

The area you are trying to protect at corners is the goal - Chris Kamara

Need to get after Walsall from the off today. Their confidence is low, managers been digging them out in public
If we can get one early I sense they’ll be fragile

I think it’s more to do with matching them up in midfield. They play 3-5-2 (like Barrow) so if we play 4-3-3 we are 3v3 in midfield 3v3 in attack against their 3 centre backs.

Glad Hurst has stuck with the 'shi* or bust' tactics. Another win and pressure mounts on the pack above.

Difference was the ball in.  Into the danger zone.  Didn't seem like a good header but keeper struggled. Hanson was in the right place at the right time.  That the difference.  Payne needs to be careful now.

A good save maybe from Macca but his positioning for the crosses straight afterwards was woeful. We need to seriously calm down and regroup. Oh and JTs also sticking the boot in to much.....

Lewis
Goal scoring genius

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Half time score line about right. We’re getting it forward quickly which is good but they’re putting in a real shift in mid field giving us no time on the ball.

We need 3 points here and we’ll need to get a lot better to get them.

You’re bordering on delusional

We’ve been very poor, our passing and creativity been shocking. However they look poor at the back, id like to see some pace on to run at them. Losing Matete is a blow

Think they fully deserved their goal

Who knows. Opinions are allowed to be different, he has the perspective of actually having done this to a high level of the game though so maybe his has more weight than us armchair managers/pundits.

Good start, looks we shocked ourselves by scoring so early and dont know what to do now.

Matete massive loss , such an engine and great with the physical side , Spokes, Coke and Rose markedly slower to anticipate , react and move to close their threat.

LJL wastes a great chance to maybe go 2 - 0 up by virtually air shotting the nice through ball.

Looks like we will have the wind this half which might help. Walsall dont look that good at the back so if we can sustain any kind of pressure with the wind maybe another goal for us yet.

We haven't played well but felt we had regained control only for them to get their equaliser. Don't think Hendrie's playing well (don't think he's played well all season) and disappointed we went for Rose over Williams, a bit too negative for me. However, Spokes looks full of confidence and we have had our moments despite not playing well which is a good thing.

Ultimately, this is ours to win or lose, they're not a good team. I'd like to see Lamy or Jackson on for Payne as I don't think he's offering enough and we need one of our front 3 to have a bit more skill and creativity.

Yes we have.
Been second best all over the pitch.
We are lucky to go in 1:1
To many free kicks given away.
Second to any loose ball.
Can't string more than two passes together.
Give away the ball time after time.
Apart from that we have been world beaters

He’s hardly found a teammate with his passing all game.

You’re bordering on delusional

We’ve been very poor, our passing and creativity been shocking. However they look poor at the back, id like to see some pace on to run at them. Losing Matete is a blow

Think they fully deserved their goal

Well if I'm bordering on delusional, then you must be bordering on a severe lack of understanding football, or else you're watching a different match to me.

Watching my first game this season . You can't fault the effort from the players but sadly effort won't keep us up this season .

Who knows. Opinions are allowed to be different, he has the perspective of actually having done this to a high level of the game though so maybe his has more weight than us armchair managers/pundits.

Plus he's looking at the game from lower down our view and quite a lot lower down. Gives a very different perspective.

I think we’ve been awful since we got the goal, which is a common theme all too often.

Payne needs to come off, on a yellow and looking a liability IMO

Yes we have.
Been second best all over the pitch.
We are lucky to go in 1:1
To many free kicks given away.
Second to any loose ball.
Can't string more than two passes together.
Give away the ball time after time.
Apart from that we have been world beaters

Midfield looks as if it's not in control, back 4 seem to be holding up. It was a lucky goal for them, they guy crossed, without looking up and hoped he found somebody.

They look very poor in defence and we need an early goal to put them to bed. 3point is what we need today, anything less and we're treading water. We have to pick up a point against a team like this who couldn't score against Southend's 10 men.

Hurst needs to tell them what's what.

Why does Crofty keep saying that Hendrie’s having a good game?

For some balance, Crofty singled him out for their equaliser saying they shouldn't have got the cross in

As for the rest of this season, Hendrie's passing skills seem to have gone AWOL along with his passion too I might add

We retreat too far when out of possesion, the wind has made it difficult to head clearances away but should help us with that 2nd half. Trouble we have and this happened a bit at Barrow is the f/b  w/b having loads of space to pick their pass as not being closed down quickly enough by our left sided attacker/midfield. Deffo missing Matete as our midfield has no one really confident about holding the ball in tight areas and Roses answer is to pass it 5 yards sideways to another marked player.
Spokes decent but we need more than hoofs up to the strikers this half. No lack of effort, think this could go either way and we might surprise people and make use of the wind being partly behind us for a change.

I think you’re being generous there. You don’t need to be an ex-pro to see that almost all his passes have gone astray. And I can’t see that he’s made up for it in other ways.

When put under pressure in the last 10 minutes at Barrow he looked decidedly dodgy when dealing with balls into the area.

Williams and Lamy to come on for Payne and the shop. Keep formation the same just get the ball down and use the pace and trickery and look to cross from closer and not our own half...

Have any of these players ever accurately crossed a ball in their lives before?

How long before we go 3 at the back and push Clifton into mid field?

Rose is on his way down the leagues (quite literally) as opposed to Matete who looks like he could play Championship, with the right coaching and manager.

They're playing for a draw, get the free kick, and let the ball run yards away to waste time.

Payne is a fanny, no effort from him at all. Would have rather left LJL on, least he's a nuisance for defenders.

Missed opportunity, never really got going and a point is all we deserved.

Some tough games coming up we just haven’t got the personal to get us out of this.

Maidenhead away first game of the season, remember where you heard it first.

Not good enough today Town!!

According to some we drunk it

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.

Understand going with Hanson, Payne and LJL for Barrow away, but far too negative for today, just leaves us with the hoof and literally no other option.

Too many players looking lethargic and waited far too long to make the subs. A disappointing day.

So frustrating, we should never have gone 4-3-3 today, Walsall were there for the taking.

Our distribution was absolutely awful and that’s the worst game I’ve seen Hendrie in, dreadful.

The only plus is we’ve gained ground on Barrow and Colchester.

Just lack of quality showing through again, plenty of endeavour, just not enough ability.
Hanson received one decent cross in the entire game and got a header on target , every other cross into the box whether open play, corner or free kick just cr@p.
The strikers received probably one good pass into feet and LJL air shots it.
Other than that hardly worked a "good chance" in 90 mins.

Even our goal was that bit of luck we have missed all season, flying in off Hanson after the defender tried to clear it.

Point gained on Colchester and Barrow, one of which we'll most likely have overtake to stay up so could have been worse but so disappointing to lose the last 81 minutes of the game and not push on from that early goal.

Again we show nothing much but some stoic defending against another sh1te team. This is partly the fact our players are average at best (some not that good) (Matete aside)but also Jursts inability to set up a team to break through a team happy to take a point, The worst part is we were the home team and created no pressure at all in the last 10 mins and continued to make it easy for Walsall players to fall down and get freekicks. Most of our players lack any game intelligence.
Anyone really believe in their head still that we wont be relegated.

Not enough individual or team quality to win - or not to concede.

Eg, the Shop literally missing a good chance (by not connecting with the ball).

However, gained a point on 2 main rivals.  Southend a blip.  We probably need to finish above them anyway.  At least we can challenge them on GDF, if not any other team.

Disappointing that. We looked drained to be honest. Gave away the ball loads didn’t we.

Its alright saying we should never have gone 4-3-3 but he changes it and we don't win , it will be why change a winning formation? Between a rock and a hard place. I do think he should have made changes earlier but he didnt.

Ultimately we lack quality throughout the team and are losing what little flair we have to injury.

It's 6 unbeaten and on to Salford where we go again, manage to extend the unbeaten run there and it will be fairly impressive form from where we were in January / Feb.

I fully support going 4-3-3 but it doesn’t work properly with 3 target men up front, let’s face it, we got the win against Barrow but we were poor up front then as well

Two points dropped for me after getting the more or less perfect start

Don't know what the conditions were like out there but our passing, especially in the second half, was woeful

On the plus side, another game undefeated - if we do that for the next nine games we might just be in with a shout of avoiding the drop

Every game that goes by though, our position looks more and more perilous

Not much to say. Effort decent, quality limited. Too many players below Tuesday’s levels.

Another chance wasted with tougher games to come.

Carry on at this rate ie the unbeaten run we will get about 11 points, nothing like enough, resign to it then if a miracle happens !

It looks like Barrow are starting to falter. They are now looking in reach and vulnerable. So, that's a plus.

I watched Forest Green v Bolton, two teams near the top. The only bit of quality in the whole game was Bolton's goal. Forest Green were awful, kept passing it sideways and backwards. Very boring to watch.

The whole of L2 looks very average. We really should have a team that is capable of at least mid-table and it is depressing to see us where we are now.

Didnt agree with Crofty - We were camped in their half for the last 45mins.
We were better than at barrow, final ball was unbelievably bad though!
Same all season whoever plays. Keeper didn't have a save to make all half
As soon as we got near the penalty box it went to excrement. So annoying. They do all the hard work and then blow it
Loved the little run from Williams, beat a few men, lays it to Payne and it goes out for a goal kick
They've got to win that game. By 2or3 goals

Christ you all wanted him sacked a few months ago. 6th place finish and he's now the messiah and can do no wrong
Update:  I think I've got this right - He was the messiah. He then wasn't. He then was again. Then it turned out he actually wasnt. He turned into one big huge messiah again. Now he's not actually the messiah we thought he was . Now I'm hoping he rises again quickly

Payne won a corner.

But otherwise yes.

Disappointing that. We looked drained to be honest. Gave away the ball loads didn’t we.

So frustrating to go 6 unbeaten but still be in this position

Thats the problem when its 3 points for a win, consistently drawing games doesnt really get you anywhere.

I’ll support PH for now, as I think he’s trying to build a foundation to move forward from, whatever league we are in, but he doesn’t do himself any favours waiting until 70+ minutes to make changes when we looked so lethargic and short of ideas in the second half today.  You have to give players 30 mins to effect the game surely?

Changing players or formations doesn't really change your fortunes when most of your squad are mediocre and much of a muchness. We lack quality. Plenty of effort but....

On today's and recent performances I wouldn't want any of that squad next season no matter what league we are in.

Let’s take the positives. Point gained and another game undefeated.

Six games, one win 5 draws = 8 points

Six games, three wins three defeats  = 9 points.

That’s the problem.

I don't think that's true however the longer the game went on the more they defended as they knew a point would be a good result for them.

But in the end it doesn't matter how much time we spent in there half we couldn't muster a shot on target.

Sadly, remaining undefeated wont necessarily keep us up, we need to win games.

9 more points would only get 3 more than Barrow and 2 more than Colchester if they lost all their remaining games.

You don’t have to change much if your ‘best’ most effective players are on from the start. Williams came on beat 3 of theirs in the box, the only time that happened in the whole game. Our ‘free’ kicks, crosses were woeful, looked tired. Our ‘front’ 3 predictable, no shape, we need energy, but more importantly ball at the feet to make things happen
When Rose came on, knew a point at best

Slightly unfair on Rose, he was far more effective than Coke who was truly woeful today. We really need some flair in midfield whether that’s Williams, Bennett or Scannell. All three have done it at a higher level and surely there’s some professional pride in one or other of them.

Actually, at HT the stats showed that we had 3 shots on target.

we have certainly had far more shots in the last few games than they were managing previously.i know the vast majority were off target, but at least there is some improvement!
