Good to see a front 2 rather than a lone striker.

Lets see what service the two new midfielders can provide.

Clifton doesn't make the squad, read into that what you will.

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

He has only just returned from injury, so maybe not fully match fit?

Hope to christ we can put some decent set pieces in as we should be a threat with Hanson and the three CB's.

Another couple of hours of stress to look forward to today.

Not sure which is going to kill me first, covid or worrying about Town.

Wouldn't it be great if we banged ion a couple of early goals for once? Just to ease the pressure?

I hope Jackson Jr. does well today.

I said at the beginning of the season that if 1 of the 3 non league signings makes it, it will be good and a bonus.

Well for the first time his is playing alongside a decent player up front, and for the first time will benefit from some better service from the midfield, so this may be a chance to really see what he's got to offer.

This will be interesting looking at the line up, Payne on for Hanson after an hour I would imagine.

Mixed emotions on that line up.

532 has been an epic fail of a formation for us the last few years

Great to see two up top again

Exstatic to see zero Green in or around the squad

I don't mind Roy Keane making £60,000 a week. I was making the same when I was playing. The only difference was I was printing my own - Mickey Thomas

The area you are trying to protect at corners is the goal - Chris Kamara

It's positive that there's no Green, but my thoughts is that it's very defensive. 2 wing backs who are actually full backs - neither are quick, tricky or very attacking players, whilst the midfield looks strong, as we know both Rose and Machete can tackle

The pitch is a looking a nice shade of brown and getting browner minute by minute, should make for a footballing spectacle!!

With Hanson playing, the backs may well launch it from around the half-way line rather than trying to get forward too much. Keep us shape better.

I most certainly won't care how ugly the football is if we can get 3 points (I'm sure PH feels the same!).

Town battling really well and causing some errors in the opposition. Need to score while we're on top!

I’ve been a critic of Rose to a degree but was optimistic that he’d be better with better player around him which it looks like today.

Cancel this, surrendered possession once again and once again it costs us a goal.

Rose getting his foot in and playing well

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Best half we've played in a long while, but we keep shooting ourselves in the foot. This is as winnable as any game we've played this month, Stevenage looked really limited and if we can keep up the performance second half and nab a goal, it's definitely winnable.

Sat off them for the first 5 minutes but then we really got hold of it and looked decent. Shocking error from Meneyese who hasn’t really settled all game puts us behind against the run of play.

Only change I’d make would be Jackson off as he’s been second to most things and lost the ball way too much. Worked hard but a bit too lightweight for me. He’s not been an improvement on Green which says everything.
Only 1 striker on the bench worries me though as Hanson will struggle with the 90.

Matete looks a really good player.  Rose has played well other than a few loose passes. Hendrie playing well also.

I know people would love to criticise the tactics and perhaps it looks a little confused at times but this is the first game this season where every single player has seemed to know what their job is...

We’re done the bottom for a combination of reasons, that defending being one of them.

We’ve few positives so far this season but Matete looks a footballer, Jackson looks far more lively up top and at least with Hanson fit you’ve got half a chance...

It’s the same for both sides but there has been occasions when we’ve tried to make simple ten yard balls and they’ve slowed down or bobbled which makes players tentative and nervous...

The mid field has looked better today but the problem with the strikers is still there. Neither of them look like they’re in positions to threaten.

If Hanson is playing you need to get in behind the opposing FB’s more than what we’ve done.

On the basis of the first half of this was a pre season game I’d be pretty encouraged but it’s a relegation 6 pointer so I’m pretty worried to be honest.

All to do now. As bad as Stevenage have been, they are not conceding many, especially recently.

Just feels like absolutely everything is going against us this season.

I thought Jackson was playing well , shows how much I know eh
Matete looks a really good player.  Rose has played well other than a few loose passes. Hendrie playing well also.

Best 30 minutes we’ve played this season. Matete looking great and should have scored twice, but it will come.

1 nil down straight from our own corner is a sickener

Need a big 45 minutes and will need Payne on I think too.

For me Rose is a liability with passes going astray and when he does find a Town player the receiver is immediately under pressure

Playing well, goal against the run of play. Problem now is Stevenage have the wind behind them, so much easier to just clear it away upfield, afterall they dont need to score now so expect they will be even more limited in pushing forward. Whos going to score a goal cant see it other than Matete. Hanson not in the game, worst thing is we have had 4 corners and despite having 3 CDs and Hanson to aim at we havn't been first to the ball once. Dont know what else we can do to change things unless Payne turns out to be a real goalscorer.

Settled into the game ok after first 5 minutes of getting to know each other , Matete showing the most again driving on and going close twice.
WInd assisted helping us to stay on the front foot i think but generally a better performance, Meyanese looks uncertain , he gave away a daft free kick early on jumping over someone for a header that wasnt his to go for and he had the opportunity to do a regulation clearance for the goal.

El Mizouni and Habergham both look rusty and not upto speed which is negating our left as an attacking force , but Mizouni , Rose, Matete do certainly look to play to feet and play it cute , reminiscent of Vernam, Clarke,Benson towards the end of last season.

Disappointing to go in a goal down especially with the wind, going to be a struggle now i think given our general lack of goals and chasing a game against a strong wind.

Payne might be on at the 60 mark.

The next 45 minutes are crucial now.

Can some fornicator please gift us a goal for a change? They are a excrement team too. Surely they must intercourse up at the back too?

Or are we so flipping useless that we cant score even then?

it's so bleeding frustrating  The lads are playing Ok bit any good foot in just bounces to the wrong player.  when we make mistakes the opposition score. when the other team do it just bobbles away from out forwards.

It's like Stevenage always have players in the right positions for their second balls and intercepting our passes to the forwards. Annoying as hell.

Hanson could have scored there if he'd used his first touch to attempt a lob over the keeper instead of chesting it down and then losing it.

Danny Rose man get him off, total carthorse, does nothing but give the ball away. He's like a less mobile Harry Clifton with half the effort.

Do town know where the goal is, passing and no shots

Nobody wants the responsibility of taking a shot. That's what happens in a team with no confidence.

It’s just not good enough, the rollicking of players last week did absolutely nothing, this is a team that is going down.

Not looking good in the league. 6 of the 8 teams above us are winning or have already taken 3 points this weekend.

Ironically even if we draw we will be even further behind

Grimsby GD -25 Southend GD -27. By far the worst 2 in the league, which points toward your two relegation spots.

The level one plays/played at does not suggest they know more than someone else....

Rose, whilst trying very hard simply lacks anything valuable for a team scrapping for its life at the bottom of the football league...

I feel absolutely sorry for Hurst today as he must be flipping raging to concede a goal like at the end. I think boots are gonna fly in the dressing room and I don't blame Hurst.

The level one plays/played at does not suggest they know more than someone else....

Rose, whilst trying very hard simply lacks anything valuable for a team scrapping for its life at the bottom of the football league...

I never said I did!  Someone said I played school football and U 16's Sunday League, I just assured him that I played higher than that.

Everyone too busy glad handing each other because we've seen a goal for the first time in ages that they forgot there was still time to play. Kind of sums up our defence in general that they were able to just walk the ball into the net from kick off while the brainboxes were clueless and out of position as usual.

Same old .....poor in both boxes.

On balance i think we deserved the draw , better display with the ball but just cr@p in both boxes.

Yet again Stevenage ending one of their terrible long runs by winning against us.

If I felt sick at half time, I feel totally numb at half time.

I feel so sad to say this, but James McKeown has to go. He’s been an outstanding servant for the club, but his time has come to a terrible end.

I feel physically sick and numb.

Deeply frustrating but the first half was a big improvement and we did everything but draw. The "difficult" games to come now.

I hope hurst and Doig absolutely RIP into some of those players in the dressing room!! They are professional footballers FFS!! Play with full concentration until the final whistle, too busy back slapping each other for getting a point out of the game before the final whistle even went. Tell Macca, waterfall and others that if they can't be bothered then don't turn up again for training and we will let them leave on a free transfer to the NL north and get someone in who actually wants to be a professional footballer

Yeah but who really cares what you did in the 1970's and/or 80's? Also slapping your football member on the table isn't the way to engage a debate about anything, saying "I win this argument because I have more experience, therefore I know more than you" is just a way to avoid addressing points people make.

Hurst must be tearing his hair out. You cannot legislate for defending like that for their 2 goals. Absolutely abysmal from professional footballers (anyone got Trading Standards number?).

If you can read properly, it wasn't me who brought up anything to do with my football career.  Also, when I watch a game, I don't just pick up on what mistakes are made, everyone, even Premier League players make mistakes.

The excitement of scoring was too much for them. They needed to have a break to realise that they had scored!

Absolutely hopeless.

Macca past his sell by date

Hanson, who's he. He was the excuse we hadn't scored due to his injury and hasn't scored since his return.

On a positive not we can only hope the NL is null and void.

In reality I'm still not convinced the players where that bothered as our movement was so poor, our goal came from 2 of the additions.

I'm not convinced the shape was right as the lad from Tunisia is never a wide player, The movement was so poor it was embarrassing and the concentration cost us two goals.

We have had relegation fodder written all over us for most of this season and today once again proved it that we are no longer sleep walking to relegation we are running towards it at pace, the only thing we've done at pace this season BTW..    .

We should never have been allowed to get in this position AGAIN.

2009 we were lucky with Luton’s points deduction
2010 we got what was coming
2018 we got out by the skin of our teeth
2021 .......

Fenty, you utter, utter incompetent buffoon. You’ve ruined this football club and yet you will walk away with a £200,000 profit that you wheedled out of the trust. You have no fcuking shame. I’d be too embarrassed to show my face in public in NE Lincs if I were you, but you have the self-awareness of a single-celled organism.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

1 point out of 15 yes. But then factor in how many of the games we’ve played recently are classic 6 pointers and you then have an ever bigger casm

That ball travelled a long way , with the wind behind it.....yet Macca was still in no mans land when the guy prodded it over him.

But we still didnt do anywhere near enough going forward to win the game.

It's over.

I said weeks ago when we were told Hurst was going to bring in 6 or 7 players and that  money was no object that we needed to do better than bringing in inexperienced kids and has-beens.

I said we needed experienced players with L1  track records.

Today is a low point in my decades of supporting Town. It was clear that we had to push the boat out and bring in quality to save us.

We have not done that. Everyone can beat us. We give away stupid goals in every game. It's a miracle if we manage a shot on target.

Today is the day that even a deluded optimist such as myself has to accept that we have well and truly had it.

Us and Southend for the drop.

Absolutely awful home record, need pace out wide, not sure, not sure why Wright & Scannell had no involvement as we need players capable of beating a man & creating something. Feel totally numb, saved before by winning these 6 pointers, not happening this year so that’s it,down & out.

He can. Don't pick them!

PH is now seeing the players who are making his decisions EASY. Either those who are worthy of a place in the starting XI, and those who should be emptying their lockers 'tout de suite'

On that show, tomorrow and Monday will be a blur for PH.

Let's hope he can bring in a few surprises to shore up some positions.

Has anyone else noticed that all talk of Pillock's (sorry..... Pollock) imminent departure have ceased lock stock and barrel........and after his last few performances he count himself lucky to get a game in the Isthmian league

Anyone just really angry...we managed to organise an extension for waterfall yet couldn’t fathom out what to do for vernam.

The semi good performance is irrelevant when you concede a goal as amateur as that...literally flabbergasted.

Most goals in lge 2 are scored by mistakes from the opponents, i actually think a draw was a fair result today not saying we was great but certainly an upgrade on last few games , still optimistic we can stop up but it looking very precarious even with my rose tinted specs

Don’t think I have felt so deflated all season, to get back in it with what looked like a deserved equaliser then to lose it straight from the restart is a right sucker punch.

1 point out of 15 yes. But then factor in how many of the games we’ve played recently are classic 6 pointers and you then have an ever bigger casm

Indeed. Your mate’s fault. Fcuking failure of a fridge magnate.

In reality I'm still not convinced the players where that bothered as our movement was so poor, our goal came from 2 of the additions.

I'm not convinced the shape was right as the lad from Tunisia is never a wide player, The movement was so poor it was embarrassing and the concentration cost us two goals.

Good job he wasn’t playing on the wing then?

Obviously everyone is utterly peed off with what happened today.
It is poor. It is inexcusable

However, there were some good signs. There is still Monday for transfers and issues with the National League.

I may be clutching at straws, but there are still 20 games left. We can only be better in those 20 games than in the 26 so far. Surely............

Its a good job that fans aren't allowed in the ground because, and despite my advancing years, I think I would have been on the pitch after Waterfall. And you know what..I would have easily caught him judging by today's showing!!

We've been here before, wasn't it Luton having a massive point fine and we were still in trouble? We've always been a club in modern football that rides its luck.

Luton had a 30 point deduction. THIRTY!
Bournemouth had a 17 point deduction and we still finished behind them.

Yes. and the worst thing about that was that we didn't learn from it.

We were just about the worst team in the division and so clearly any sane owner would realise that we needed a serious upgrade to avoid the drop the following season.

Instead we tried to muddle through on the cheap and got relegated. How flipping stupid. It could so easily have been avoided. Just as our current predicament could have.

Do we need to resort to calling a 19 year old kid (a 1st year pro) a pillock?

Pollock’s current form remind me of what happened with Darren Mansaram.

A decent prospect thrown into first team football at an early age, relatively, and expected to deliver well above their experience. Mansaram was expected to lead the line and score the goals that would keep us in the Championship at age 18, he played 37 times in 02/03. Pollock has been chucked into a garbage team, partnered by some absolute junk, in front of an awful keeper and behind an appalling midfield, and expected to develop into a solid L2 CB (or better) in those circumstances.

Don’t get me wrong, he’s contributed to our position, but he’s not been helped by any of the supposed senior pros, nor Hollowhead who partnered him with another youngster in Preston down the left and forced him into an unfamiliar playing style for much of the season.

I'm holding out hope for a positive day of transfer action on Monday.

Ultimately, Monday is now a more important day than today was. If we bring in a few more players of similar ilk to Matete, they will help us for the rest of the season.

Strengthen our side to compete better for the next 20 games, and today might not necessarily be the season-defining result it might feel like now.

Frustrating- we played pretty well but we got punished for two errors.

Macca - wasn’t far enough out for second goal - but it was Waterfall who really stuffed it up
Habergham - Looks very rusty, too many misplaced passes, little threat going forward.

Meyenase - worries me, was at fault for the first goal - not as e we yuck as was made out.

Pollock - going backwards at a rate of knots - needs a rest.

Waterfall - distribution woeful, defended well until he stuffed up the second goal.

Hendrie - was excellent

El - Mizouni - to be honest thought he was garbage - but you can’t judge someone  after one game.

Rose - wish he could pass - pretty ineffective

Matete - class - MOTM

Hanson - did ok - hopefully stays fit

Jackson Jr started brightly, faded - better than Gibson or Green

Of the subs thought Spokes did fine, Payne did what we want him to do.

Barrow lost n Southend lost; still tight at the bottom. New players may need time but plenty of games left. Jolley was in worse position than this.

Keep the faith, we are Town, it’s not over yet!

The goal encouraged me. In one short move Matete and Payne showed they're a massive improvement on what else is as at the club. Unfortunately, they'll need to do that 17 times a game if we're going to concede goals like the one at the end.

I thought Menayese was a little unlucky for their first goal. The ball could have rebounded anywhere but the striker got lucky. At least he had the pace to get there first instead of the striker having a free run on goal past slow defenders. Second goal was a disgrace. Positionally both Waterfall and McKeown were at fault. Either of them should have dealt with it and neither did. Payne finishing the way he did was a positive, finally we've got a goal threat. A couple more players in, one or two back from injury and a further shuffling of the pack by Hurst and I can see us picking up a win or two over the next few games..

And.. does Rose mishit that pass on a better pitch.. I don't think so. There are league table and EFL status consequences for furloughing the groundsman to save pennies..

The stuffing has been completely knocked out of the lot of them, holloway has drained the life out of their confidence, he's destroyed their capabilities of holding the fort and playing the basics. The lose balls we play, the willy nilly passing, the panic on the ball, afraid to go forward and over lap, the backwards game then ball to nothing, players that won't but a tackle in, second to the ball its endless what this bunch are doing wrong. As fans we are possibly 95% confident we are down, we deserve it and with no special thanks to fenty and co and the man I literally detest with passion Clown Holloway.

Speak for yourself. We're three points from safety, twenty games to play with a new manager bedding in half a dozen or so new players all of which seem an upgrade on what we had already and hopefully a couple more incoming. You seen the standard of the opposition, and I mean the whole division? Everyone is beatable with us not having to improve too much. Do you want to contribute to the negativity or try and pick some positives out? Negativity can be the breeder of bad outcomes and generally used to lessen the blow. The nightmare of dropping out of the league will be terrible however anyone braces themselves for it, whether it's now or in May. We are far from down yet, have faith and try to pick out some positives however small they seem to be at the moment..
