We were told that money would not be a problem in the transfer market and the covid clause would be removed. Their is now only a short time before the transfer window ends and our signings are 3, 2 on loan and a free one.

What has happen to the promised money to bolster the squad, or has penny pincher Fenty ( I'm off with my cash) refused to sign the cheque again. We do not know who is or was or in what order Hurst's list of transfer targets are or have been.

Given our current position you can understand some of his targets not wanting relegation on their cv's, but money, or the right amount,  is always known to change a players mind. Also will Day/Fenty only agree to a short term deals. We don't know, so where the promised cash?

I'm no fan of the current board, but wouldn't there be some cost in wages as opposed to the other youngsters we had on loan?

See where you are coming from arry. Phil did say it won't be a problem, so assuming he knows the figures he didn't say limited amount.

I think it's a fair question to ask. Phil Day promised money to strengthen the squad. I think 3 free signings is pathetic at this stage of the transfer window, wages have been saved on loan player sent so he has not splashed any cash.

2nd from bottom and the transfer window closing on Monday should warrant serious discussion.

What he said was clearly open to interpretation. My assumption at the time was that we had money to pay semi decent wages for a few players, I think maybe you/others thought we were suddenly going to start offering clubs transfer fees for players. The latter never struck me as being a realistic scenario.

The money being available and freedom of choice are two different things. Just because we can offer a decent contract doesn't mean we are going to sign a 20 goal a season striker and a creative midfielder plus a top class goalkeeper on 4 year deals anytime soon.

Right now a relegation battle isn't a great prospect, nor is relegation in itself so it's likely we'll have to settle for short term deals until some job/wage security comes into the equation. This isn't even a question to be answered, nor a particularly well thought out one. This isn't like a manager game where if you have enough virtual coins to throw you can pretty much sign anybody and they instantly join the club. Actual negotiations involve agents, players the player's family and so on. Everything needs to be sorted out before anything is signed. Stuff can literally change the day they are supposed to sign as they are driving here and it falls through.

Yep, that's what we were told.

Only the highly gullible, or those completely unfamiliar with the Fenty regime, could possibly believe it. Money is always a problem (look at the world).
Day's statement joins a substantial list of utterances made by the club that are far too crass to be taken seriously. So I'd suggest you don't...

We’re 91st In the EFL and played more games than most with a shocking goal difference and the odds are stacked against us to a degree as we’re so poor.

No matter how much money you throw at a player is someone who’s going to make a difference, match fit and thus you would imagine already playing for another EFL team sign for us? I would suggest only if they’ve fallen out with their current club/manager or know they won’t get a new deal in the summer?

Also to be fair to Hurst why would he put a new player on a big contract that might not be sustainable in non league and risk p1ssing off the rest of the squad.

We’ll end up with a few free agents and loans, then it’s fingers crossed they come good.

The current team are still pretty sh1t good players very rarely sign for sh1t teams, if they do it often goes wrong.

I'd be amazed if Fenty and Day are sanctioning any deals at the minute.

I don't think funds, within reason, are a problem.  It's how attractive we are as a club.  Be that from someone who we want to sign or someone who could come here on loan.

Propping nearly everyone else up, takes a brave or desperate man to sign a contract knowing you could have a relegation on your CV and/or a big pay cut coming up in the summer.  Equally so we've been a car crash of an outfit for the last 6 months, would you loan your young players to us?

That comment was made BEFORE the deal with the consortium was agreed.

We are now in a Catch 22 situation.  Old board will not finance the club as there is no way of getting the money back.  The new board will not finance the club in case the buy out fails.

The big problem is with the EFL dragging its feet in approving the sale of the club, which can take 2 or 3 months to complete.  By that time, the window will have closed

I think you make a valid point.

I think to Fenty and the gang though "money not being a problem" does not equate to what most of us would recognise.

What they really mean is "money not being a problem...as long as it is the  minimum we can get away with" which is just one of the problems we have faced in these dreary Fenty years.

We should have taken the bull by the horns early in this transfer window, as the board have great experience in relegation battles from the Football league, but they are incapable of learning anything, ever. A worse bunch of penny pinching nobodies over a sustained period would be difficult to find.

Lincoln seemed to manage it. Got new investment and went from the ar$e end of non league with 2000 fans, to storming the National League, cup giant killings and breezing through League 2, seeing their attendances rocket.

They didn't do that by not offering wages above and beyond the league norms.

Of course, they had a whole pre season to put the plan into action and we don't. Neither do we have the new owners in charge as of yet. We don't know where we are at with that and we may well have to start the revolution from the National League by the look of it.

Thanks John and Phil.

Hey, let's be honest, who is going to sign for the club 2nd bottom in EFL that's worth more than a free or loan. We are a T. I. T. (team in trouble). UTM. OR UTMM (up the meak mariners).

Hurst said that we needed 6 or 7 new players. We have 4 signings so far. Personally I feel that we definitely need more midfield and striker options.

Maybe its Rodman and LJL that are coming. Not sure if that is enough, frankly.

Money talks. I don't think players would be particularly worried about our league position. If we offer £1,500 a week over 18 months and a mid table side offer £1,200, I am pretty sure they would come here.

Hurst is a credible manager, we are in the process of a takeover and must still be considered one of the 'bigger' clubs in League 2. When all this chaos ends, how many other clubs take 1,000 away to midweek games. We should try and focus on what we have going for us and the overhaul of the club following the takeover. One thing is for sure, if I read The Fishy I would think twice about coming!!!!!!

Every other team down our end of the league have made multiple signings, be they freebies, loans or even fee paid, but Hursty is supposedly struggling to bring players here. It wouldn't surprise me if there are no incomings between now and Monday and then Hurst has a field day on Monday once he knows which players in higher leagues are not in their first team plans.

As much as we would love him to sign a couple of 'names' with multi year contracts, I can totally understand Hursts reasoning for only offering contracts and loans until the end of the season. They perform and save us from relegation, they get offered a new improved contract. We go down and they are released. No blight on their record. But how many players want that sort of contract?

I'm with you Ron, money talks. How many £millions will the club lose if they slip into the poxy National league more than spending some cash now on decent players to keep us up. AS I keep on saying 1st question to a target player is how much followed by when can you start.

Niceties have gone it's now the start of desperation stakes. We waited from 1st week of Jan and are still waiting. WBJ said wait till Monday, this is just another day in the future. 21 games to go is all well and said but our track record is not good. 4 games in Jan and 1 point doesn't send us up the league.

So where's the money Phil; wages or transfers the cash is still in the bank. It is a sad indication of our plight when may on this site pray and hope for the NL to be made null and void.

Other teams at our end the league will only be attracting the same level of player as us. Just because they are signing them, doesn't mean they are an improvement on what they have. I'd also not be sure that we are offering contracts until the end of the season only. The players may only be willing to commit to the end of season and see how it goes.

I also think we already have a side capable of winning enough games to get us safe if we could only get a bit of momentum, confidence and belief, plus everyone fit and firing.

I may sound cynical but I've just read sca face on another thread about funding for the Nation League.:-

"Not sure the timescales are going to work. Clubs expected to meet tomorrow, have books open & inspected, apply for grants/loans, have whole process agreed and delivered in the next few days/week, with players expecting payment of Feb’s wages and fees from the 6th?

Can’t see it happening. Are clubs going to play on the 6th or will the vote happen early next week to scrub it?"

It made me think that if the National League becomes null and void then we won't be relegate, HOORAY. Phil and Fenty won't have to spend the alleged cash Phil said we have. It all seems to taste of the preseason lack of spending in which they hoped for covid to stop our season. Now their plan could have been to hope for the NL to stop their season

I don’t doubt that the current Board expected the season to fail to complete. I suspect they thought it would have been postponed pre-Christmas and then run out of time to complete the season.

Hurst may want to keep some to pay off players. He said he'd look at the squad Tuesday makes me think 🤔 some will be released by mutual.

Can only spend what we are allowed to spend within the remit of the rules based upon a % of income.

In any event Paul has now been allowed to bring in 5 players now, and possibly another couple ready to come in ahead of the deadline.

This is not what Phil said. Money is not a problem means it's not a problem. Their was no reference to amount, budget limits or any other constraints. Therefore the cash must be there for Hursty to spend on wages and transfers how he wishes.

If the money wasn't their then Phil and JF would not pull such a stunt knowing what flak they would get.

He could well have been lying.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

Right from almost the very first interview Hurst gave, he clearly said that we can get 4 more players over 21 to fit into the budget, so that means the wage budget must have been well under the limit, but that still doesnt mean that money for transfer fees was available

I don't think they would have any issues in such utterances, irrespective of the validity of them.
