They must have kept the news about Macca as late as they could so Oldham don't do their research on Russell.

No Macca? Surprised he hasn't made the bench, unless I have missed something. Does that mean Battersby has been recalled from his loan at Gateshead?

Time for payback for anyone who remembers when Oldham were taken over  17 years ago, and the new chairman made the game free to enter. They where struggling at the time but hit us for 6-0. Its the only game I've ever walked out early

I fail to see what Williams brings but I guess he’s not alone in that at the moment.

Then again when you’re on a cycle of play, dropped, play, dropped, play, dropped like the players have been under Holloway you’ll never get going.

Again our front two are absolute dross

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

We seem to have decent movement but our failure to pass a 10 yard ball negates it all. Its got a one goal win in it either way but our only chance from open play was created for him self by Edwards.

HT.....0-0

Two poor teams.

They edged it, but maybe Edwards can create something out of nothing in the second half. Russell is a weak link, they haven't put him under that much pressure though.

Williams or Green. Not both. Missing Windsor or Gibson to attack the ball, press and not fanny out of tackles.

Waterfall keeping us in it. Can't believe how Preston has gone backwards... literally.

Boring but I’ll take it just to be in the game. Look solid enough but weak up top, Edwards lively with no end product and Williams shown glimpses.

Morais and Preston have been absolutely awful whilst Bahamboula for Oldham has been far and away the best player on the pitch and the best I’ve seen at this level for ages

5 games during December has definitely taken its toll on the pitch (or is the groundsman still on furlough)

The final 3rd is just dire.

For me, Gibson or Jackson Jr on at 60.
Tilley on for Williams at 70 (who definitely needs his ears bending at half time)

It might have been awful but I'll take that, a point and a clean sheet Oldham are tasty away from home

So me hurst, it’s over to you !

Must agree with the comments about a poor team, but, then again, Oldham have been shocking too. No desire or fight except for Clifton, waterfall and pollock.

Green was on a hiding to nothing and doing as much as he could with poor service, or maybe he was poor.

A point is still better than losing.

Most important thing tonight was not to lose.
Done that  small steps  on to the next one.

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

It might have been awful but I'll take that, a point and a clean sheet Oldham are tasty away from home

Wel done the caretaker management team, turned the corner perhaps?

Very similar to performances under Anthony Limbrick. Solid, unspectacular but in the end, effective.

Is this the first time we've had Jackson, Green & Preston on the pitch together ?

No I think that was the last game against Morecambe as it was mentioned during the game by the commentators.

agreed. we all know that we need some creativity, a bit of a leader and 2 front runners.(and a competent left back,an andrew fox type will do.

he starts with us in a bad ,but not calamitous league position.
i'm told he has an almost encyclopaedic knowledge of players in divisions 3,4 and 5, so hopefully he will have a good idea as to who he wants

I think we all knew that Pete We didn't expect things to have changed just because Fenty has gone did we?

We didn't lose, we ground out a point. OK we never looked like winning and it wasn't very entertaining but if that's what it takes

Anyway if Hurst gets the job we'd better get used to unspectacular displays

Well.....virtually no errors or moments of crap defending in the 90 mins gives us a chance of winning....but our strikers and forward play cancel that chance out.

Worked hard, effort by and large was good...just zero quality, pace strength where it matters going forward.

He could know every players inside leg measurement and their partners cousins names but it still doesn't mean any of them would want to come here.

To quote Ollie, he said "I never knew it was so difficult to get players to play for Grimsby"

Any new signings have to be in it 125% as we all know the amount of fecal matter who have been signed previously over the years who have only come here to keep their bank manager happy, and all those who have flatly refused to move locally.

New owners, but the size of the task to keep us up is massive.

A few weeks ago it looked like, even though we were complete dross, there were at least two basket cases below us.

Southend were dead meat and all but down. Then we played them. We also assumed that Stevenage were such crap that it would be easy to finish above them. Now they can overtake us by winning one of their two games in hand. That puts us in the drop zone.

The truth is that for several weeks now we have been the worst team in the division. Had Fenty remained I would say that we would be nailed on certainties for the drop. With the new owners we have a chance, but it is by no means certain that we will survive, and it will not happen without an influx of good players.

I would say that we could do with a new keeper, new full back, at least two midfield players, and two forwards. All of whom meed to be of a higher standard than we have seen at the club for some time, and experienced at this level or above.

If indeed Hurst does take over, he needs to start bringing players in quickly before we end up adrift of safety.

There are far too many players in the squad who lack drive, determination, hunger etc, and who won’t see much game time under a Hurst regime.

hurst always had a good eye for a player, he's got 4 years more experience and he's not going into it with 1 hand tied behind his back, with fenty gone.
he presumably trusts Davies and Moore to give him the low down so he's not coming at it from a standing start.
McKeown, Hendrie, Waterfall, Pollock, Clifton,Morais, Rose and Hewitt all give him a solid base to work from, whilst i think Edwards and Spokes have something to offer. The other plus for him is that generally they all work very hard (tonights efforts wasn't a one off) which i think he will approve of

Selection, subs and positional changes had too much of an echo of Holloway. Morais has no left foot, Williams is lightweight, and Bennet has more know how in managing a game than Tilley.

MOM, Waterfall again. Rose and Hewitt not on the same wavelength. Were we pressing or not? Gibson works harder at it than Williams who neshed every tackle. Did they know prospective managers were watching?

Ben needs to demand graft and a mantra of winning ugly by getting to second balls. At least Preston had a better second half until his daft foul late on.

Controversially for some I’d add Rose to that to be honest.

Tonight we defended better overall but in the other 2/3rds we where poor.

There is a lot to do and whoever comes in will need to spend as much time in January on the phone getting the revolving door going as they must on the training ground.

We certainly need two strikers and are Wright and Scannell ever going to be fit long enough to make a telling contribution as those two playing wide with Edwards as back up give us an outlet to move forward. Unfortunately think we have to accept Hanson just isn’t going to make any sort of contribution.

No manager could get this lot moulded into a team and the only way we are going to survive is to get 5 experienced pros in all the important positions.

If Hurst has accepted the job, he will have made sure the money is available I am sure.

I actually liked LJL when he was here. Big, strong and mobile, everything we don't currently have up front. Always thought it just needed someone to play off him.  That said, didn't he have serious injury and end up at  at Hereford?

Maybe at 31 the shop is a bit on the mature side but someone who does what he does with the confidence he does it is definitely required.

In Rose’s defence though maybe he’d be more influential with more capable experienced players around him.

I've not seem much of the footy this season, but from the handful of games that I've seen, Rose passes it around nicely 95% of the time, needlessly gives it away in dangerous areas 4% of the time and makes catastrophic attempts to tackle in the box 1% of the time.

I'm not sure being surrounded by more experienced players would change this much, though he might not be trying to force the play all the time if we had more ability in attacking areas.

Oh, for a Hessenthaler-type midfielder right now.

Rose has looked fine alongside energetic players such as Clifton and Hewitt. When it’s Williams or Bennett, whose work rate is less, he’s struggled.

Funnily enough I’ve been speaking to Paul and he reckons his mate Lenell is coming back as he also has some unfinished business to sort out. Thoughts?

Tell him he's too late for Christmas !

Tilley probably regrets letting IH blow smoke up his ar$e and convincing him to come to the frozen north.

Yet another mass cull of the squad needed and the team in trouble. Just your usual season at BP.

Is that now 6 managers and 4 caretakers since 2016?

Another dreary, pretty shot performance. Oldham keep clean sheet for the first time this season.

8/9 Players out there whom I hope never to see again.

Tilley has disappointed - looked to be progressing well before the lockdown...

Was never that impressed. Always hung onto the ball too long when a simple pass was on. He might learn but not sure we can afford to be the ones he learns that with.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

Rose has looked fine alongside energetic players such as Clifton and Hewitt. When it’s Williams or Bennett, whose work rate is less, he’s struggled.

My Grannie is more energetic than that male masturbator Clifton......and she's been dead 30 years.  A disgrace of a player, headless chicken, pretty gutless and spinless, biggest pile of excrement Ive ever seen in a Town shirt, absolute hate him. Lazy illegitimate who hasnt improved one bit at any stage of his career. Out the door I would expect.

Trying just a bit too hard there Boris.

The thing with a good wind up, is to be a bit more subtle.

I'll bite the bait.

Clifton has given it his all, all season. A bit of a handyman 'jack of all trades, master of none' sure. Can't get on his back and he's one of our own too.

Yeah right. Lazy illegitimate? What total balderdash. There is certainly areas it is fair to criticise Harry for, but laziness is absolutely not one of them. What an utter cretin you are. If you don't like a player at least have a proper explanation as to why rather than making stuff up.

He has never looked fully fit for me and tonight I thought he had gone off at half time.

because he is excrement, that simple, doesnt create anything, scores 1 in 30, and has not improved one bit, since coming into the side.  This is the worst side Ive ever seen, the midfield is utter dross. Perhaps the fact that our top goalscorer is a centre half from set pieces might just remind you of the total lack of ability/creativity that midfield gives us.....all of them bona fide excrement.

Maybe if we didn't continue to lump it forward and looked to play through the midfield Clifton would start to shine.
Terrible game last night, but I guess with this squad and no manager, a point is a point.

You sir really are a t!t.... Clifton is THE most energetic player we have...if I were you I'd stick to tiddly winks because you obviously know little about football.
Fir what it's worth, what Clifton does lack is the ability to play a pass further than 5 yards, every time he plays a long ball it either goes out of play or to the opposing defence, but his work rate can never be questioned, never!
