So sad. I met him a couple of times and he was always friendly, polite and a great ambassador for the club. A true gentleman.

Dave has been suffering from Dementia and Alzheimers for a while, top bloke Dave.
I would give him a lift to the home games, when I saw him waiting for the bus, he would chat away about football.
Would frequently see Dave down the Ave and seafront, always had to talk to anyone about football and Grimsby.
He did alot of charity work and help bring back ex players to Blundell Park.

Hope he and his lovely wife and family, get all the help and support they need.

A true Grimsby legend and a gentlemen.

Very sad for Dave and his family, he gave a lot to the club. Lost my mum to it last year. I am contributing to a long term PROTECT study on it as my way of contributing to research with myself as the laboratory animal.

We’re all bitching and moaning that we can’t get to see town play or the right players haven’t been signed.

When you’ve got a Town legend in poor health, it puts everything into perspective

Get well soon Dave.

Sad news indeed. Dave's a top bloke. Always has time for a chat when I see him.

Dave has done a tremendous amount of good works for his adopted home town as an ex-mariner and as a councillor too. I am sure he will keep fighting just as he did In the midfield on BP for so many games.

Top man, speak to him regularly on the prom when he's walking his dog.

Take care Dave mate.

One of my big heroes watching Town years ago. Good and big things come in small packages.

He has given so much to the Club - on and off the pitch - for around 50 years. Such loyalty is very rare these days.S

Say what you like about the town but a lot of ex players continue to live around here. Boylen, Macca, Gallimore come to my mind first.

I always remember back in our Division 1 days, he used to gee up all 4 corners of the ground with a 1, 2, 3 Wahey!

Sad to read this in the GrimTel. Top bloke who has given a lot to GTFC and the wider community.

If you’ve had experience of dementia in a loved one, you know how difficult it’s going to be for Dave’s family.

Sorry to hear about your mother Rob. It must have been very difficult.

This PROTECT study sounds intriguing. Could you tell us more/share any links?

You know you're getting old when you see players of old lapse into old age related health issues. Too many to list down the years.

Legend is a word that's bandied about readily nowadays to no end of folk, but to me Davie Boylen is an undisputed Town legend. Take care, Davie.

That's the one but I joined a wider one as well which then pick other one-off studies from time to time.
