I first became a Mariners fan in 1941 when Grimsby played their home matches at the Old Show Ground in Scunthorpe.Even though I moved to Perth,WA, in 1961, I made sure on numerous visits back to the UK,that I managed at least one visit to Blundell Park.
I have just celebrated my 90th birthday and as a surprise to me ,my family contacted the club,hoping for,at most,an email or text of congratulations.They were amazed to receive a 2 minute video from the man himself,congratulating me on my birthday, thanking me for being an Ancient Mariner, and wishing me all the best for the future. This is certainly the icing on the cake and much appreciated . Many thanks for Ollie and all the people at the club that made this happen.This act will stay with me for ever.

That reminds me of when Lawrie McMenemy got us promoted to Division 3 in 1972 with a 3-0 win against Exeter.  I was unable to attend as I was serving in the Army in Londonderry, N Ireland at the time.  So I wrote to him, congratulating him and the team on achieving promotion.  I was very surprised some time later to receive a hand written letter from the big man himself.  During the passing of time and many moves from one base to another, sadly I lost the letter.  However it shows what a great man he was, and I believe that IH can repeat his success.

Coincidence here is that LM's team beat Exeter to get promoted, AB's team in 1991 beat Exeter to clinch promotion and this Saturday we play Exeter!
