This came in the Fishy's post bag.
Hi Rob, A non-footy fan at work has come up with a cracking terrace chant. After hearing a few of us chatting about Ahkeem scoring his first senior goal and originating from Jamaica he came up with ‘grimsby town the place i want to be’ to the tune of kingston town by ub40. Absolute genius! Interested to know what fans think. How it's never been adopted by us before now i do not know! Would be great to hear it sang by a full away end at Chesterfield. Can you help?

Podge has long gone, But the magic lingers on There are wonders for everyone New star shining bright, Cutting in from the right There is magic at Grimsby Town
Oh Grimsby Town, The place I long to be If I had the whole world I would give it away Just to see, the boys at play

Ahkeem is a wonderful prospect and I wish the lad all the very best, but I feel a few days after he has scored his first ever league goal, is a little early to dedicate a song to him. Especially by UB40, all the way from the Montego Bay area of Birmingham.

One of the best I ever heard was sung to a young Warren ('Pudding Basin') Barton away at Maidstone Dartford's old ground):
Does your mother cut your hair? Does your mother cut your hair?
[To the tune of Bread of Heaven]

| Through the door there came familiar laughter, I saw your face and heard you call my name. Oh my friend we're older but no wiser, For in our hearts the dreams are still the same. |

The culture of terrace songs develops over many years. The first songs I ever heard at Blundell Park in the early to mid sixties were "Daisy" and "2,4,6,8 who do we appreciate" but as mentioned in the post above the SH1THOUSE one was sung with so much venom that it really made a snotty nosed wee boy laugh uncontrollably every time it got an airing - which was plentiful at BP during the day.
Some of the stuff heard today like "FISH!" is pure theatre, and I doubt anybody who was at Wembley to see Town get back into the Football League will ever forget it's rendition there on the day?
Have heard many great songs at BP over the years, but to hear the "Mariners" chant start in the old Barratt Stand occasionally, and then filter along the Pontoon, Main Stand and Constitutional end really used to make the hairs stand up on the back of my neck.

The "Vera Lynn" era chants when I started watching Town...
Who's that tw*t in the big black hat Scuffer is his name
I'm a knock kneed chicken and a bow legged hen
And one to the tune of the Hoover advert "Hoover beats as it sweeps as it cleans" the words to which I just cannot remember...

I cringe in greasy chip butty when I hear people sing 'good bit of stuff' instead of 'good pinch of snuff'. I mean, what the intercourse is that exactly?
I always used to like Walking Down the Grimsby Road but you don't hear it anymore. And 'Mariners' is chanted too quickly. Amazes me on the old 80s vids just how drawn out 'Maaaaariiiiiiineeeers' was. Sounds better like that.
