I would put money on people who watch English football in the far east having a better geography of England than we do of their respective countries.

What’s that got to do with the point I am making?!

But English football is effectively in competition for those foreign audiences with Spain, Germany, Italy and (to a lesser extent) France. If we lose the cream of the foreign players in this country it would be an inferior product to the other nations. It's easy switching allegiance if you live in the far east, it's like ditching Apple for Android.

There’s an argument to be made that we don’t have the cream of foreign players in the premier league anyway.
What we have is a league with a lot of world famous clubs in comparison to other leagues

Not so sure GR . If you think of the attraction of the premier league to the Far East, it’s the affiliation to one of the top 4/6 teams that those “fans” enjoy . I bet most of them haven’t got any clue of the majority of the players , history or even where they are geographically in England. It’s all about putting that shirt on and pretending that they’re a fan . If this happens all it will mean is that the bang average squad players will be sold back to Denmark or Spain whatever and the top players kept on .

I’d disagree as the names of Liverpool, Man Utd, Arsenal etc would trump any Johnny foreigner as far as competition goes for the global audience. Names like Robson, Dalglish, Francis, Barnes who became global stars would never of got a look In if the old division 1 was swamped with foreigners back in the 70s 80s.

That might be true but I don't think the FA would ever take that risk. They want to guarantee the TV money keeps rolling in, which is why this proposal will never take place IMHO.

Well it's all over the news tonight

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”
