Not saying M.J. is blameless but looking back that enforced break after our little run could not have happened at a worse time.

Our form had picked up and we were starting to relax but the break took away that momentum now we are back to square one.

Pressure building on everybody again not least Jolley.

Thought he would be a lucky talisman but the curse of Grimsby seems as strong as ever.

Too many players who today at least were not good enough.
Only players who can take anything from the game were Macca and Collins.

Add to them players who are probably good enough to start most of the time: Rose, Hendrie, Embleton

Vernam and Cliffon can do a job. Still leaves us short a few players.

Hard to tell how the rest of the  players would perform with maximum confidence, but that looks hard to get currently.

I'm sorry Doctor but I'm going to have to disagree with you regarding Collins. On the face of it Collins made a couple of last ditch blocks and a few eyecatching headed clearances but where were they from? Inside our box. If we play Collins it's virtually a free pass for teams to get dangerous balls into our box. He is captain, he sets the defensive line and we're always too deep and we always give other teams enough time and space to play because he's scared of getting done on the half turn or forwards running into any space behind him. On top of that, as a centre half you also have to cover behind the full back on your side and who was playing right sided centre half tonight and left RHJ cruelly exposed along with Woolford in front of him, the poor lad. And which full back has been left exposed in the past few weeks? Hendrie at left back when Collins was playing on that side. The Mansfield centre halves and Famewo showed Collins how to mark a forward tonight by getting tight and not giving him a second and our opponents kept a high line. It's alright Collins looking good by making those last ditch tackles and headed clearances but that's his strength. He steers our defence to play that way but it does nothing for our all round team play and how we set up without the ball. We end up defending phase three desperately because phase one and phase two of our defensive responsibilities are not being dealt with adequately due to the reasons above. He may have been a good player and still a good player of sorts, but the brutal truth is that he's too slow to play League Two football, nothing can make up for it. You're either quick enough or you're not, anything else compromises the team and sadly in our squad he's one of at least three or four..

After reading Bigdogs comments made me think that whenever I have seen Famewo play the defensive part of his game has been excellent and I would like to see him partner Whitmore with a Hendrie at right back and a fully fit Fix at left back.

Give us more pace at the back and two full backs capable of getting forward and putting crosses in. Not sure about Fox longer term but his displays at end of last season suggested he is more than capable of playing at this standard.
