Playing out the closing stages of their game in their own half with zero intent to attack.. despite being a goal down, to go through on fair play over Senegal...
darn right non gentlemanly if you ask me..playing for a draw is one thing...playing to lose 1-0 is a step too far IMO

They haven't attacked with Zeros since 1945.

Anybody criticising the Japs for seeing out the game last night wouldn't have to look too far for another team doing much the same. England didn't exactly bust a gut trying to get an equaliser, did they?

we had qualified already , the group qualifiers had already been decided regardless of outcome, we were resting the first team so we can properly assault the rest of the competition, the second team were just not good enough to win....and its one rule for us of course

Is it any different to a side holding out for a draw over a two-legged game, knowing they'll go through on away goals?

Considering the ringer that Southgate has been put through for fielding a second-string side in a dead rubber game, can you imagine the uproar if we were in that position and he ordered his players to go for it and it ended up costing us another goal and progression in the tournament?

What was weird was that the final outcome of the other game was uncertain at that time. A late goal in the other game would have sent Japan packing. How stupid would they have looed then?

Thought they were very good earlier. Nice quick feet. Adventurous. Had the odd surprise move in their locker. Always play with spirit. And no play acting.

OK not the best quality, but would much rather watch the likes of Japan than Argencheatingtina, Porturoll, and Brrrrpjustbeenshotzil.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

Problem is, it's all very well being neat and tidy playing the ball round well and so forth, but it's all a hill of beans if you can't cope when the opposition bring couple of big lads on and start crossing it into the box. Only saw the second half yesterday but Belgium should have scored 3 or 4 with headers easily.

I suppose that's the problem if you're a diminutive nation.
