At the start of the competition we have 22 entrants. (Nobody forecast the correct score of the first game suprisingly  ) The way I intend to do this is to run as a league table during the group stages. At the end of the group stages, the top 16 will qualify for the knockout stages, so only 6 entrants will miss out on this. The knockout stages will then be played on a head-to-head basis, 8 last 16 games, 4 quarter-final games, 2 semi-final games and 1 final. Obviously when we get to the semi-final stage I will introduced some more predictions, ie half-time score, first goal etc to give us scope for more points to be scored. In all of the knockout stages there will also be a tie-break question. Don't forget that if you do qualify for the last 16 there will only be one free day, so predictions will need to be done fairly promptly. I will produce a league table at the end of each section of games. Good luck to all.
Bloody hell Les talk about making work for yourself ! Can't you keep it simple and just run it as a league table all the way through with all 22 entrants in it? (it would also be a shame to drop 6 people out) You can introduce more aspects like scorers and H/T if you want |

Can't you keep it simple and just run it as a league table all the way through with all 22 entrants in it? (it would also be a shame to drop 6 people out) You can introduce more aspects like scorers and H/T if you want
I did think about juat running it as a league all the way through but I though making the last 16 games a one-off knockout system would make it a bit more exciting. I'm more than happy just to run it as a league system all the way through if people would prefer that. |

I just thought that it would mirror the actual competition playing the latter stages as a knockout and in fact it would be less work for me as I'd have less entries to mark up as the competition progressed rather than having to mark 22 entries for the entire competition. |

It's a fair point though Civvy. I did um and aah before making the decision but I was initially hoping to get aver 30 entries like I do with the usual prediction league but in the end only 22 entered. I will do this on a knockout basis how I first decided as in fact it causes me less work doing it this way but it was a fair point by Ipswin. |
