About to be named Rangers boss:

Another John Barnes? Don't know why these big clubs appoint people like Gerrard, based solely on his playing career. May work, but more than likely won't.

He will need a very good assistant to do the job for him.

I would rather have Michael Jolley as Town manager than Gerrard.  MJ has many years of coaching at a range of clubs.  Gerrard has one season as a youth coach.

What are the expectations for him there?

If it's to actually win the title up there then it probably doesn't matter who is appointed, Celtic have managed to build a squad that's so far ahead of everyone else (largely whilst Rangers were in the wilderness working their way back up through the leagues) that it'll take some serious investment to catch them.

If it's to finish second, that shouldn't really be much of an ask for anyone.  Aberdeen are second with their top scorer as Adam Rooney who bagged a whopping 4 goals in 24 the last time he was in England (League One).  You surely don't need to be a footballing genius to finish above that, do you?

Use whatever transfer budget you've got to sign run of the mill Championship/high end League One players and that's about it.

Instead of taking the Rangers job which will mean incredible pressure of  expectations from the club and fans, he would have been better trying for a lower league club to learn his trade and gain some experience.

4 year deal that's a nice pay off if he fails.

Scott 'hands' Vernon was prolific up there and I have noticed Slades number one target Nicky Maynard hasnt scored once for them !
