Following speculation to the contrary, Grimsby Town Football Club can confirm that there is no imminent announcement scheduled for the appointment of a new First Team Manager.

Well done the board, the speculation on here is feverish at the moment.

I'm glad the club are keeping us informed.

There's no point rushing to give the "outstanding candidate" the job. Due diligence is in order and there's always the option of a contract until the end of the season to a "night watchman" if it means waiting for the right man to become available.

By which time we might be back in the National League. There's a point where 'due diligence' becomes unnecessary procrastination.

I wish the club would just get on with it. Whilst it’s important we get it right time isn’t on our side with only a dozen or so games left.

We're not going down this year. The chance is so slim I'd rather they took their time. We can't get any new players until the season ends. That's when the job starts.

Nearly 800 fans got behind Paul and the boys at Cambridge but due to Paul Wilkinson following the same tired tactics and players it went mammaries up.

The club can't win.

"Too much communication" ... "not enough communication"

"Hurry up and appoint someone"  "don't appoint someone who sucks because we really need to win the next few games" "Hurry up as there aren't many games left.."

Whatever happens, people will gripe.

I'm sure Fenty and the board are acutely aware of the situation and are trying to make the best appointment, in the right time, given the circumstances.

Would any manager worth his salt want to be a “panic” signing? If you are going down that road then hire a firefighter for just the 12 games and go on from there with a proper appointment.

But it has not come to that yet. If there is someone out there in two minds about the job, knowing the fans are in volatile appointment fever mode is not going to help. A week of relative calm and less hyper-activity might be just what we need in the long run to take the pressure off everyone concerning Saturday’s result. Tension breeds fear on the field as well.

I think the statement says that Bentley doesn't have a clue and the GET are stupid for reading it and then printing rubbish. We can't comment on individuals for obvious reasons but we thought it was worth letting you know it won't be today.
Perfectly reasonable given the wild speculation (fact from one poster)

Spot on Rob The new man needs to come in in May - there is no rush. All this relegation stuff is nonsense, it ain't gonna happen.(and who is to say a new man now appointed in haste would be able to turn it around given the current squad anyway)

I think the new man needs to come in a little sooner than that. Assess what we have (not a bloody lot) and then assess what we need and put plans in place to get those players.

Think the club are perfectly correct to make a holding statement.
The frenzy about Phil brown and Arthur askey is not helpful and sometimes it takes time to get to a position to get a new manager on board.
Most of us have no knowledge of the number, quality or cost of the applicants and people being sounded out.
Without that information we should sit tight and support the interim manager.

Not at all mate I have never for a moment thought we might be relegated and those running around wailing that we might are driving me mad

I say wait until May as there will be a number of top 8 managers from the Conference who, having performed very well but suffering the agony of just missing out on promotion, might well want to move up to the Football League - if Fenty is determined to go for an up and coming chap (there will be a lot of FL established managers available too but of course they will be the failed and sacked brigade but amongst them I have no doubt will be a couple of good 'uns whose experience could well bring something and through their contacts, a few decent players to BP)

There is a good chance Fenty will intercourse up again anyway but if he appoints someone in a blind panic its even more likely

There will be plenty of time for that after the season and knowing what we need is totally different to getting them especially as the new bloke won't know who is available until mid-June anyway (unless of course you think Fenty is going to agree to actually buy players on contract somewhere (rather than sign freebies)

The only advantage to an earlier appointment would be to decide who to try to keep from the present crowd - personally I hope its nobody! After all it won't be like letting Amond, Toto, Arnold and Nolan slip away will it

FFS It doesn't matter what the board say you're always going to criticise them.

They've updated us on the situation and you're still not happy.

Just because the rumours on here/GET were wrong you still somehow blame this on the board.

We just have to be patient and hope they get the right candidate

I would prefer somebody in sooner rather than later, that will give him proper competitive games where he can assess the current squad and keep/ get rid of those he doesn't fancy. As for being relegated, l believe it will go to our final 2/3 games, mainly because Barnet and Chesterfield are worse than us this season.

Not at all - unless it's escaped your attention, we are in freefall and have home games coming up against Port Vale, Chesterfield & Barnet and would quite like us to have a manager before then because Mr Wilkinson doesn't fill me with a great deal of confidence.

By the way, I like the word hope - were you being cynical or sarcastic?

Who is to say the rumours are untrue, the statement says no formal offer has been made, that's not to say there hasn't been an approach that could have been turned down.

And do you always believe what this shower of a board say?

Among others, the rumours I read stated that either Brown or Askey is signing tomorrow. Neither of these were true.

I believe an informal approach for Brown was made but the rumours didn't say that. Thats far from saying he's agreed to sign tomorrow

There is another advantage - if a new manager is in place then he’s in a better position to quickly snap up any good out of contract players. In the conference especially most players are only on 1 year deals and the best players usually get snapped up pretty quickly. A new manager could even start tapping players up in advance.
