If the Catalans one day achieve the unthinkable and gain independence from Spain, Barcelona could be forced to quit La Liga. Pretty sure there will be lots of leagues around Europe desperate for them to join, but with the wealth of the premiership surely they would have the biggest pulling power!

If they want independence then they should stick with a Catalan league. Barca v Sitges. It'd be like the Scottish League on steroids.

They can sodomist off, we have much more right to just turn up and play in the premier league!

I think we will one day have a European League anyway with the top sides from England, Spain, France, Germany and Italy etc. The Champions League will keep expanding.

There's no way La Liga would not want Barcelona in it.

Inevitable IMO, and I for one would welcome it. They can all sodomist off as far as I'm concerned and give us our game back.

Cant see Barcelona joining the premiership myself though members of the Spanish FA have stated if Catalonia gains independence from Spain they will be ousted from the Spanish league
As for independence following Sundays vote Iam not sure what will happen as only 42% turned out but were 90% in favour of independence. Personally if they want to leave Spain I would let them but as reports stated on the BBC it has ramifications for the rest of Spain and also Europe so may not be a wise move.
Pique the Barcelona defender also voted for independence which has caused friction amongst Spanish supporters which has been evident by the jeering of him from Spanish supporters when he turns out for Spain .This has gone on for a while even prior to the vote as he hasnt been shy in airing his views on pro independence in the past . Likewise there has often been historic friction between the Spanish contingent of players between Real Madrid and Barcelona. Interesting to note though that Iker Casillas tried to smooth things with Xavi as the simmering tension was started to affect the Spanish national team .Interestingly Mourinho didnt like the close friendship forged between Xavi and Casillas which had been ongoing since their childhood days . This in large part caused Casillas being dropped which in my view puts Mourinho in a bad light.
Hence it was this close bond between Iker Casillas and Xavi and the personality of Vicente Del Bosque which eased tension in the Spanish camp which allowed for the glorious success Spain had between 2008 and 2012 .

It'd be no different to Monacco playing in the French league would it?
Can't see La Liga kicking one of their biggest teams out of the league!

If it went to a La Liga vote do you think the others would vote them in ? Their monies are divided up very differently and i think Barca get massive shares of TV monies as the clubs negotiate their own TV rights i think which gives them a huge advantage over the rest of the league. The others might welcome the perennial front runners being booted out. I have heard that Shaun Harvey has been in touch with them though about inviting them into the Checkatrade Trophy next season as a wildcard if La Liga do kick them out.

Clubs negotiate their own deals, therefore Barca and Real get the lion's share as they are the 2 most attractive prospects. Do you really think TV companies would be as interested in La Liga if you removed Barcelona from the equation? I doubt removing Barca would result in the lesser teams getting more money! I'd be more inclined to believe that the smaller clubs would prefer to get a piece of a more attractive Barcelona flavoured pie.

Wishful thinking methinks-about as wishful as Celtic ever being admissible to the prem. However, the genie is now firmly out of the bottle in Catalonia, the simmering resentment dating all the way back to Franco's fascists in Madrid (with the help of Hitler's Nazis) bombing the republicans in the civil war of 1936-38. In more recent times, the prosperous Catalans have been subsidising the rest of Spain, including being forced to take on a 5 bn euro debt to assist the bailout of Spanish banks in the 2008 financial crisis. Basically, it seems, they have had enough and want to go their own (republican) way. It is difficult, in view of Rajoy's violent reaction to the plebiscite, to see how the Catalans can ever be put back in their place -or the republican genie being put back in its bottle.

The Welsh teams (also Newport, Colwyn Bay and Merthyr) are in the English league because there was no Welsh league at the time. They're always used as arguments for Rangers and Celtic joining the English leagues, but they're completely irrelevant.

The most ridiculous point about this was that the referendum vote might well have gone against independence in any case. All polls were neck and neck and there was a good chance that a no vote would have been returned.
Now, I'd imagine there aren't a great many Catalonians who would be against independence.

The French league is crap they'd be better off joining that. At least its got geographical proximity. We are nowhere near. On the other hand Catalans Dragons play in our Super league

And they're based in France to add further transborder complication.

I know that. Think I mentioned it on another thread. But for now at least it's across a border 9from the rest of C)
