For fans traveling to Dover on Tuesday (or whenever we play them if postponed), all Dartford Crossing Tolls can now only be paid online, either in advance or by midnight the day after crossing or else you will get a £70 fine.

Charges apply between 6am and 10pm, so coming home won't be a problem but you will need to pay on the way there. Cars are £2.50 a time.

Use this site to pay.

So it will be free on the return journey,

Sad to say my driver will not have finished work in time to go.

Yeah. No charges between 10pm and 6am so it'll be free coming home.

You can actually ring up and pay but online is the most convenient way.

When was that? Does that mean it flows any better now?

It seems a little better and will no doubt improve once everyone is aware of the procedures. It came into being on 1st Dec last year, It uses number plate recognition and, in our case just charges our business account. All our vans (and my car!) get a reduced fee for having a corporate account

If you're at Tolworth there's no need to even cross the Thames to get to Dover, because you'll be on the A3.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

Nope - the toll booths were still there on Saturday when I went across the Bridge.

Going south from Essex to Kent there's a new bend in the road which takes you around the end of the toll booths.

Going north from Kent to Essex you have to go through the old toll booths and barriers although there's nobody there. I'm guessing that they have to be able to control the flow of vehicles through the tunnels for safety reasons.

Setting up an on-line account is straightforward.

Ah, Tolworth, I remember it well. The land of the Tower. Only just on the right side of the Thames though!

I did not say they have removed the toll booths themselves,

I said the pay booths , meaning the place you pay .
