Gateshead P Grimsby Town  P

Attendance: 1   (as far as I could see)

Temperature: +4 degrees C (and had been no less than this wherever I had been all afternoon)

Arrived at the ground around 6.35 p.m. - floodlights partly on. Quite a few cars in the car park outside the main stand. Checked out the turnstiles - (guessing North part of Main Stand) - which were closed (thought that was a bit odd). Had a look through the gap between large gates and could see a green pitch but covers over the athletics track.

Decided that even though this was to be a low key game, there didn't seem to be many people about - so went and asked the reception staff. The spokesman confirmed that the game had been called off due to a frozen pitch - I couldn't believe it - perfect night for football. No sign of frost / snow / cold weather anywhere in Gateshead. (But I do recognise it takes quite a long time to de-frost a chicken in the 'warmer' part of the fridge.

He then said the game was re-scheduled for next Monday but doubted that this would happen due to the same frozen pitch. He apologised for the game being off, and although I was looking forward to seeing this game (having got there), it dawned on me that this is not such a bad thing - probably for both sides (being a bit cynical).

Plus points: Got home 3 hours earlier than might have been
                    Didn't watch a poor game
                    Didn't see my team lose

The match was called off just after mid day. Hope you hadn't travelled far.

Around 2 hours back to my house Grimal. The guy at reception did say the game was called off at 12.30 p.m.

After I got back, I read on Gateshead's website that the reason that the game called off (at 12.30), was that Geoff Eltringham (a recognised Football League referee described as born Tyne, England!) said that the goalmouths were frozen.

Is it beyond the bounds of science to cover the goalmouths with insulating materials to prevent a re-occurrence of the same problem - seeing as they seem to cover the athletics track with protective materials ? I'm not sure that Gateshead F.C. will do this, if they do not want the re-scheduled game to go 'aheed' on Monday.

Let's just toss a coin to see who the winner is in this pointless cup.

The way things are at the moment. The coin would land on its edge. šŸ˜³

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarkedĀ Ā 'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'Ā Ā
