Not the most inspiring of games, we had a few efforts on goal in the first half, but they were poor.

Second half I thought we would go on and score a few more but despite plenty of possession we didn't create much.

After their keeper went off and was replaced by an outfield player, apart from Mackreth running past him to score I don't think he had a shot to save.

Have to write this one off as job done.

You know you're in trouble when there is more to say about the non-football part of the day than the game itself. We were all aware of the M180 closure but what caused the problem was the closure of the A15 at Forest Pines.Eventually arriving at Nuneaton's ground (for the benefit of those who haven't been-the ground is in the middle of an industrial estate with the nearest pub a distance away) after 2.00 I attempted to get in the bar but was refused entry by two (polite) gorillas clearly fresh from "sorting out" pre-Christmas Friday night revellers on the basis that the game was a "segregated" match with no further explanation forthcoming. Whilst no doubt Nuneaton will blame "Police Instructions" it is a convenient coincidence that there is absolutely nothing else to do other than go into the ground where you are exposed to the usual sub-standard food and drink. It was flipping freezing and not a tad embarrassing that the whole delay was caused because for not the first time the team coach couldn't get from A to B in anything like a reasonable time. At what should have been the kick off time the stewards and police just about out numbered the away fans. This top heavy approach is rapidly becoming a feature of the season based on what "intelligence" I'm not quite sure.
By the time the game eventually started most people were so cold that the decision to get it decided on the day looked, with every second that went by a more dodgy one.
The game itself was probably the most one-sided in terms of possession and chances created (and more often than not missed!) I've seen this season. Nuneaton were awful. Town were  better without needing to fire on all cylinders. There were glimpses of the blossoming understanding between LJL and JPP (the latter taking his goal very well) but Lenny had one of those days where, had we lost, the knives could easily have been sharpened in his direction and with some justification. Johnny Boy would have been able to relax his sphincter just a touch as at least three chances where it looked easier to score went begging. The worst, a shot across goal from three yards off the near post, actually defied the laws of physics.
Defensively Town were almost impermeable with just a completely missed punch from Macca causing real danger. Pearson and Magnay were outstanding-again. Aswad showed what we've been missing these past couple of games with some excellent forward runs. In midfield Disley put in a shift until his enforced early departure. Brown got stuck in but since his injury seems to have lost the "something" that earlier in the season put him above the last two incumbents of the problematic midfield general position. In short there were too many misplaced passes, poor selection and aimless punts throughout the team. Mackreth was his usual frustrating self. In the first half making some good runs but lacking either the delivery of the final ball or the guile to beat his man regularly.
Any realistic chance Nuneaton had of salvaging something went with the sending off. Definite red card-the defender was on his way before the ref. had reached into his pocket. The resulting free kick somehow caused their keeper to collide with the post and render himself unable to continue. Such appears to be the mind set of the current team that instead of driving on for a big score all XI seemed content to pass the ball either square or backwards. After Lenny had missed yet another gilt edged opportunity Mackreth showed how it should be done-skillfully rounding the stand-in keeper before slotting into the empty net. It got colder but there was rejoicing knowing that there wouldn't be any extra time.
A final shout for the mathematically inept individual who reckoned there were 104 Town fans in the crowd of over 340. There were at least 70 who travelled by buses and at least the same again who'd made their own way there.
In four weeks time we have to do the same again.....

The aim of argument or discussion should not be victory but progress.

Got a call from someone who was there . His report was that a number of Nuneaton people wanted there money back due to us getting stuck , so they went home . We outnumbered them in what can only be described as a farcical attendance . He said we huffed and puffed , should have run riot against a poor side but didn't . Unfortunately his favorite forward didn't impress again when one on one with the keeper .  Forgettable game for number of reasons made better by being stood byTerry .
