On the bench for Stevenage today.

Would he be the oldest player ever (55) to play in the league if he came on?

Close call with that one but I'd have to throw the legend that is Stevie Sherwood into the mix too......

Couldn't disagree more. Beasant and Danny coyne both streets ahead. I guess real old timers would add in George tweedy. From recent times Wayne Henderson was damn good

Both Charlie Wright and Harry Wainman were good keepers as well.

I remember Steve Sherwood making some real howlers as Town's keeper. I know he played in the first division and an F.A. cup final and all that, but he never filled me with much confidence when he was at Town. The best keepers we have had in the 40 years I have been watching Town have to be Batch and Coyne. I'm not going to include Beasant and Henderson as that were only here on loan.

His record at town was immense, something like 7 wins and a draw if I recall, he looked unbeatable when he was with us, the best keeper I have seen at blundell park anyway.

BBC are reporting that he hasn't appeared in  a Football League game since 1993, for Brighton against Grimsby Town. Stevenage will probably have enough players to not include Dave Beasant in the next squad.

But he was one of the greatest loan signings - did he keep a clean sheet against Newcastle United at St James Park (in one of our victories)?

Beasant is the best keeper i have seen play for Town but he isn't the best ever Town keeper. He wasn't here long enough to gain that accolade.

I agree with Les. Batch for me.

Aiden Davidson in the 1997/98 season was out standing. Beasant was like an extra defender when he played for us , i have never seen a Town keeper command his box like he did . Would we have challenged at the top if we had kept him????

His performance at Everton that famous evening in 1984 was possibly the finest 90 minutes of goalkeeping I have ever seen. He was almost unbeatable that evening and the time that he was beaten, Chris Nichol cleared off the line.

He brought a confidence to an already good side. Thought we would get trounced at Newcastle that day. Maybe some of the best games I've seen play was that merry month
