Seems they're making the way down on Saturday, thought it would be interesting to see what you thought of them just now.
My opinion, played some good football in the 2nd half when they finally got going, defense doesn't look to good reckon any of our strikers could have finished Jenning's sitters. Best players and one's too look out for against Chester are Touray and Rooney imo.

I know we always say this at home, but we MUST be positive, look how many chances Wrexham carved out. If we sit too deep it looks like Chester have enough going forward to potentially hurt us.

Agree with the OP on all that. Also liked the look of Hennaghan, not just for the goal. They're no duffers that's for sure !
Agree too lee, need to be positive. Early goal(s) would obviously help. If not, I anticipate plenty of hard work from the players and patience from the fans. Suppose what we don't want is to end up frustrated with Chester passing and keeping the ball to death.

Are you including LJL in that?????

| In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions. Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them. GOD |

Can you get a fare refection of a team from watching a derby game against Wrexham ? They were up for it and now have the bragging rights , so hopefully we eill get them after the lord mayors show as it were .. What ever , no sitting back being reactive instead of proactive . Non of us know what shape the team will play or who will be playing until Saturday , A win , and nothing else will do .

How dare you! He only missed them to make Lenny feel better. There's no other explanation because he's not excrement is he?

We can`t use LJL as a scapegoat if he is injured, we need a new one, Clay, Magnay and Dizzy are not in fashion it seems, so there you go its Hannah`s turn in the barre l

I am glad that people think that Chester are "not duffers". It is the duffers that often beat us or leave BP with a draw.
Happy to see Chester play some good football and go for i (at least at home). They are unlikely to park the bus so this gives us a better chance to win. We need to play much better than against Torquay though.

Chester is a Roman city with almost completely intact walls around it's old centre. There are some lovely 'Real Ale' pubs both inside and outside the aforementioned walls. The railway station is a good walk from the centre and a long way from the football ground which is half in Wales at the back of a large industrial and retail park.

I am sure Hurst will have done his homework and will say, They are a lot better team than their league position says, It will be a tough game, We need to be aware of their danger players, It will be a very tight game with few goals, BUT Do not worry , I will put Oates on for the last half hour, He will get us the goal we need.

I'm quite glad we didn't sign Jennings. He really didn't impress at all on loan last season and was surprised we spent so long chasing him this Summer considering. Seems like his Macclesfield spell was a flash in the pan.

It could be his injury, When some players get a bad injury like Jennings did, They are never the same again,

Why? Last I checked, you don't win any points for the content of your pre-match interviews. Especially imagined ones! As has previously been noted, how many managers have you ever seen who talk up their own team and claim they are much better than their opposition before a game? Pretty much none is the answer. I find the continuing theme of taking digs at Hurst for his (pretty normal and banal) interviews really bizarre.

Exactly. Only time I've really seen managers talking their team up is when they're big underdogs. If we got a bigger team in the FACup I would hope Hurst would ditch unnecessary words of respect and talk up our chances. But if Hurst gives it large in the BSP then fails to deliver, not only is the performance in question but his "arrogant over-confidence". It also sets a tone for the entire season. After that, any cautious talk will be instantly leapt upon and he'll be accused of being clueless regards tactics and and all over the place.

Good points Maringer and I agree. I'm not really that interested in hearing if Hurst can 'talk the talk'. I would probably consider it insincere and artificial if he suddenly started doing that, but I do think that Saturday's game gives him a good opportunity to 'walk the walk', as it were. Actions speak louder than words and home victories build promotion contention. As long as Hurst's team think they're better than Chester and then act like they are by intimidating and beating them, then we should be happy. IMO Hurst gets far too much criticism for what he says (or what he doesn't say), but I do think his tactics should reflect more emphasis on a 'let them worry about us' approach, especially when we're at home. I thought Chester looked useful and it will be a tough game, but they shouldn't fancy coming to BP to play a team in form in front of a good crowd. I don't want to hear Hurst cockily pronouncing that he intends to exploit that, I just want to see him do it.

I would get Jack Mackreth to run at his full back Roberts who's 35 mackreth could have a good game saturday, Rossy Hannah up front I'm hoping the more game time he has the sharper he will get, Paddy in for Disley Chester are a passing team so i would swamp them in midfield with Brown, Clay and Paddy with Scotty Neilson in the free role.

Are you saying it's not just about 3 pts but how we go about it ? What if we DON'T act like we're better but still end up winning ? Not trying to knock you (have already agreed with a positive approach and think you make some good points), just interested to hear your thoughts...

I'd seriously consider that formation too.

Brown, clay and paddy in midfield, hannah up top with neilson free to roam, Where is macreth fitting in to this formation? Not knocking but i'm picturing a three in midfield with two strikers and neilson the link so struggling to fit an out and out right winger in there? Or is paddy wide left and neilson in the hole in a 4-4-2? Or a 4-5-1 with paddy left and neilson centre to roam?

Can't speak for fiveallive but thought he meant...
..............Hannah Neilson..................Mackreth ......Paddy...Brown...Clay..
i.e. when Neilson roams about, Mackreth can drop, Paddy shifts left. Same thing for Mackreth, Neilson can drop, Clay shifts right.
Sure fiveallive will confirm what he meant though. Perhaps a "Team for Chester" thread is a good way to kill 2 birds with 1 stone.
