I'm making sure I have a great day next Sunday regardless of the match. On an early train from Leeds so will be into Kings Cross for 10.30ish. Plan is to find somewhere with plenty of Town fans and have a few/lots of steady/rapid pre-match pints. Wondered if anybody had any ideas of where they're likely to be drinking pre-game or any recommendations from previous Wembley visits?

PS - Obviously if we don't win on Tuesday I'll not bother going and just stay in starting endless threads on here about the season being over.

Wouldn't even think of drinking near wembley. Kings cross has excellent boozers.
I would recommend the Euston flyer, come out of kings cross, go right along Euston road and its a few hundred yards on the other side of the road.

I suspect kings cross will confuse a fair few people now given that they've 'turned it round' so to speak. Caught me out the other week but been down a couple of times since. It's much easier to move round etc but it is confusing...

for those parking at the stadium iself there are plenty of pubs nearby , it just depends on which ones are allocated to which team or wether it is a case of first set of fans in decides who they will serve. i do believe though that this is predetrmined.   i have been looking on websites for pubs near the ground and the grren man stands out, approx 300m from wembley, looks decent enough and the food prices arent too expensive either,so hopefully drink prices wont be ridiculous either. it could be a good meeting point for town fans.
anyone used this before.

i have used the torch a couple of times and had good and bad experiences of it so will be avoiding it this time.
have also spotted a cheap wetherspoons   jj moons in wembley itself. looks decent enough

FFS! You're going to one of the world's best cities with some of the best boozers in the country.

Do you really have so little imagination as to choose to frequent a plastic chain pub full of old people and pinch faced urchins selling soon to be off ale in an air craft hanger of a pub with a stench of old farts and zero amosphere? Christ, you could be in Eastbourne, Stevenage or some other non descript town!

Some fantastic boozers in clerkenwell, Shoreditch, islington, Highgate but I'd recommend st johns wood or west hampstead as on same tube line as Wembley.

Avoid drinking in wembley like the plague. A godforsaken place.

Cheers for the link. I have hired the basement bar to practise my penalty taking.

Torn between the somewhat cliched Panenka chip or the classy no run up, one step placing in to the top corner.

Once I have resolved that dilemma I then have to consider my celebration...

Can't wait for this weekend. Will be a great dress rehearsal for the playoff final.

Right then ya'll. Let's have some consideration for those of us taking the kiddies along please We're staying in the Wembley Travelodge Saturday night and the bin lids are 12 and 15 years old. Leaving Grimsby at 9am Saturday morning so can anyone recommend any child friendly food type pubs open on Saturday/Sunday please? PS I've no problem with jumping on the tube somewhere just aslong as we find a place where we can drink till the time the sprogs decide to collapse on Saturday night which, knowing them, will be way after us .

Well I think we'll start with a pint and a full English at Wetherspoons Liverpool Street at just after 9am (train gets in at 10 minutes to) then up to Covent Garden area about 11ish quick couple there and then to the Torch. After the match back to Belgian restaurant in Covent Garden nice meal with a few Trappist beers then to the Punch and Judy

I live in Hackney, there's a group of us going so will probably start East, but wouldn't mind meeting somewhere central-ish for a few and heading to Wembley on the tube with fellow Town fans and having a sing song on there.

Punch & Judy was awesome in 2008!  Maybe best for the Saturday evening though?

If anyone goes for a few in West Hampstead the Railway is right next to the Jubilee and overground stations, as well as the train line that runs from Kings Cross.

This is one of the pubs designated as a "Wrexham" pub on Sunday. Not sure how strict it will be adhered to though.

It’s not on the Met Police list but The Globe opposite Baker Street tube station is a good boozer and only two stops (on the Metropolitan line) from Wembley  It’s one of the main haunts for England fans before home matches.  Cheapish beer (for London) and plastic pint pots for outside drinking and singing.  TV’s, music, food etc and off-licence round the corner too which can come in handy if gets really busy.  Having said that the staff in there are used to pre-football crowds and are usually pretty on the ball.  Opens at 12pm on Sunday.

Be careful in this one -- had great pre-match drink in there before Bournemouth fixture in 98, but we got ambushed in there big-style AFTER the game - nice lads like us too.   Da Met Feds came to the rescue, 7th Cavalry style-y.

Having said all that,  we're probably going there BEFORE this Sunday's kick-off.

Not especially, it is a hugely affluent area (but with pockets of poverty)  Cruising for gay sexual encounters has been  known to take place on Hampstead heath but this is available in many other areas too; vauxhall, soho, the public toilets at the top of carnaby street has a fantastic selection of glory-holes in various sizes to suit all needs!

Hey. . . Ease up on yourself fella. . . What happens in London stays in London xxx

Here's a safe place to go out if you want to avoid all that London gay scene thing, the beer is great and they open late.

We're planning a lovely stroll down Old Compton St cos we're a bit hotel motel.

Actually we're heading down there towards the Staff of Life as it was a 1998 special place and because we're not homophobic loons. Gonna pop into Prowler for a massive buttplug too though.

PS I've no problem with jumping on the tube somewhere just aslong as we find a place where we can drink till the time the sprogs decide to collapse on Saturday night which, knowing them, will be way after us .

that is absolutely NOT true - unless you know something that London Transport doesn't know itself.

The majority of the Metropolitan Line is scheduled to be fine on Sunday, except for the northern extremity from Amersham to Moor Park, which is due to close on Sunday.

Any Town fans drinking in Kings Cross? I reckon that might be where we end up.... 30 mins direct on the tube from the station and not too far from where I live.
