I read last night that Paul McCartney was fronting Nirvana at a benefit concert which included several other heavy weights of rock.

Being a big Beatle and Nirvana fan, I should be thinking that 1/4 of one of my favourite bands coupled with 2/3 of another of my favourite bands should be amazing but I just think it's all a bit weird. I've just had a look to see if there is any footage of the gig and the best I could find is this: https://apps.facebook.com/theguardian/music/video/2012/dec/13/paul-mccartney-nirvana-sandy-video

It looks to me that McCartney and Nirvana have written a song together....... All very odd. Well, it is to me anyway.

I know there are some of you that post on here that have got an interest in music. What do you think? I can't quite get my head round it!

This is as ludicrous as Cliff Richard fronting the Rolling Stones. Can't stand McCartney's voice, songs, look, personality, arrogance. Kurt, on the other hand was so cool.

What I've heard sounded awful.  Lennon and Cobain will be turning in their respective graves.

So, the general consensus is that you all think it'll be excrement! Me too. I've not seen it yet but I think It'll be like watching a train crash in slow motion.

I've still got time for McCartney although I think he should pack it in now, he's making himself look a bit silly. Same goes for The Stones. I've a great deal of respect for them and what they have done for British music but seeing them now makes me cringe.

Kurt Cobain was indeed cool but so was McCartney when he was in his 20's.

This wasnt what was meant when Macca was told to do what Kurt Cobain did!

Macca should just give up. He's not as good as he was and this is not him fronting nirvana. They didn't play a nirvana song nor a Beatles song. It just happened to be dave and krist on bass. Aside from helter skelter macca never wrote rock n roll songs.

Kurt will be turning in his grave, although being cremated and having his ashes spread over the wishkah river may make that difficult.

As for the stones, great great band but I've heard some of the stuff from the recent shows and if I'm honest it doesn't sound that great and appeared hugely underwhelming.

However, celebration day by led zeppelin is amazing and they still are. Jason bonham is almost as good as his dad.

Aside from helter skelter, Birthday, She's A Woman, Back In The USSR, I'm Down, Helen Wheels, Another Girl, Get Back, The Night Before, Paperback Writer, I've Got A Feeling, Sgt Pepper, I Saw Her Standing There, Why Don't We Do It In The Road, I Wanna Be Your Man, Oh Darling, Jet, Live & Let Die, Let Me Roll It, macca never wrote rock n roll songs.

Agree with you about Jason Bonham, he is nearly as good as his old man.

Yeah, I've read that and I thought it was pretty good. It doesn't make him out to be the squeaky clean guy that all the other biog's make him out to be. A warts n all account. I think McCartney working with Nirvana is very interesting, decent that it's for charity but I still think it's all a bit wrong.

Isn't McCartney only slightly less dead than Kurt?

No attempt at ethical or social seduction can eradicate from my heart a deep burning hatred of the Tory party. So far as I'm concerned they're lower than vermin. Aneurin Bevan.
