Don't know what the score is with Artus but if he's fit then play him instead of Thanoj.

I would like Pearson and Southwell to start upfront to see what they can offer. However I do not want to change the back 4 that much as a settled back 4 is key.

Assuming Soares doesn't return back might go something like

Judging on the side the gaffers put out against AFC Hornchurch last season it'll be a full strength team save Pond out for Miller.

When they said they wanted a run in the Trophy in the post match interview, I wondered if that's what they were driving at.

Played together in reserves both scored but to be honest its does not look an ideal pairing, Southwell looked good though and should be given a full 90 in case we lose loanies in a few weeks time, IMO him and Thanoj are the future

whats all this about  resting players. must play our strongest team every game. its a mans game , and pros shouldnt be tired if they are fit.  we need to keep the winning factor going , and need the cash from a good cup run

With due respect to Buxton we have players on the verge of the first eleven who need to play a competitive game and this is an ideal opportunity

I reckon we will start with the first team minus injuries/suspensions, with a view to making changes later depending how things pan out.

If players on £100,000 PW need a rest,

Ours do as well,

Getting out of this league has got to be our No. 1 priority.

put out a 'squad' team - gives the first teamers  a break, lets squad players stake a claim but may disrupt the momentum

Really like your idea of playing him behind the front man Abdul - forgot about that. Good thinking !

No Colbeck though ?
Not ideal left side but has played there mid-game before as has Southwell I think ?...

Might even consider something like this too in a 433/451, perhaps even playing Soares as an out and out central midfielder too. (see Bradley Wood thread).

On the other hand can Soares "do a job" left side for the future too ? Swings and roundabout perhaps...

But don't really mind how we go, just so long as it's not near full strength.

I wasn't sure what Colbeck's (or Wood's) injuries were like so left them out completely. I put Neilson in as he's missed 3 matches recently so no 'fatigue' issues (though we're only playing 1 a week at the moment anyway).

Yeah there's certainly no guarantee Colbeck will be back as S&H seemed to indicate.
No sure about Wood either but guess he should be ok.

I'd play the 'reserves' thoughout this Mickey Mouse cup. We have the Christmas fixtures coming up so give the first eleven a rest. I'd introduce Neilson from the Bench though to build his fitness as he's missed 3 games.

Agreed but I'd maybe rest Neilson for Soares now he's on his way back for sure.

There are places up for grabs for the christmas games when neilson and hannah are not here so use this game for people to stake a claim

yeah but it's a  complete irrelevance in the greater scheme of things - i want to support a league club not some non league outfit who once won the fA Trophy

As someone said, who'd be a manager.
I think this is a game to give people a chance to prove a point. Christmas is hectic, we've got people going back, we will get injurys.
We dont want there replacements coming in cold and not up to scratch. This is the perfect oppurtunity.
Obviously I would say this, but the team I posted earlier is our best option.
Them players need game time, and on paper it looks a decent enough side to win the game.

Each to their own but I think the league title and a return to where we belong has to be our absolute priority. From a purely footballing point of view, I'm not even bothered about the FA Cup.

Personally, I'm embarassed we even enter the FA Trophy. If we get to Wembley, I'd have to go but I'm not sure what value I would put on the silverware.
