Histon look close to going out of business. A real shame. It wasn't that long ago that they made the play-offs in The Conference and were beating Leeds United in the FA Cup. I enjoyed our visit there the season before last too, not just because of the result but the friendliness of the club and their fans. Here's hoping that they can sort something out. http://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/Sport/Stutes-to-seek-advice-over-finances-16112012.htm

Yeah, I really enjoyed our visit. Nice place, nice people, decent club. Can see how it's a struggle for them though being so close to Cambridge.

The fact they got into the play-offs being such a small club and failed to get to the promise land probably shows the reason why they are struggling financailly ever since.

If they got promoted they probably would have lasted a few more years like Rushden, however they eventually fall back down and disappear, am sure Crawley and Fleetwood will eventually do the same. Thats what happens when you take a small fanbase club and try to punch it above its weight. Not nice for the fans but am sure they didn't care when they were 3rd in the BSP, the same as Rushden fans didn't care when they were successful and the same as Fleetwood and Crawley fans right now, and probably Forest Green fans too. no sympathy for clubs like these, its one thing being unsustainable like most clubs including ours, its another thing spending more than you have with the sole intention of promotion or bust.

That's a real shame. One of the nicest, friendliest away grounds I have seen down here.
I recall their match sponsor a couple of years back was the landlord of the local boozer, who was a Mariner! He paraded round the pitch with a mini Mighty Mariner before the game!!

And before the game in his pub he was buying all Town fans a pint as well. They also have a sponsored "Histon Mariners" advertising board on the top of the main stand near to The Osmond corner.

I do have to say, the picture in the "Woodsy era" section that is captioned "Fletch and Tom cannot believe their good fortune In meeting to Mariners legends" did make me chuckle
