I thought last season he was one of the more technically gifted players in the squad and yet this season I cannot see where he fits in the team. Although he's got a great left foot, I neither see him as a left sided winger (lack of pace) or a centre midfielder as he lacks a bit of bite in the tackle.
Sorry to say that if we keep the likes of Marshall and Neilsen till at least the end of the season I think we might see the end of Frankie even as early as January.

thoughts??

I agree. He seemed to be good with set piece last season, too. Not only has that side of things been poor this season (lack of match fitness?), I think Sam Hatton's performance last week has made him redundant.

Artus can do the same job as Thanoj if given the chance, he is wasted out left and has the ability to put his foot into a tackle,.

Maybe we could try Frankie out in the centre against Buxton. Not enough pace to be a winger but in the centre he can tackle, pass, dribble and he has a decent left foot on him.

I think he's been awful this season, although he has been played out on the left. He's not got the pace or the skill to play in that position. I'd hardly describe him as 'wasted' out on the left either he can't take a set piece to save his life and he's hardly 'technically gifted'. Get rid in Jan!

Not a left winger and 4th choice center mid, so unless we regularly play 4-3-3 where he can be the benched center mid, he's not needed.

Great passer of the ball though, I'd say only Thanoj is a better passer than him in the team

It's as if I typed it. I couldn't agree more, it's a shame as there's a player there but he looks about 9 stone wet through. I don't see him getting in this side.

Obviously he's not first choice right now but don't underestimate the defensive contribution he's made from midfield or his value as a backup player.
The games changed so much don't think you need "bite" in the tackle anymore, just need to work hard, position and cover well and get a toepoke in.

cod he's not needed right now but he might be if injuries etc kick in.
Think it's healthy to have versatile players as backup who can do a job in a number of different positions.

OP makes some good points but I'd think twice before giving him any bullet - left footers don't grow on trees.

For one, who do we thinks gonna be starting v Buxton ?
I wouldn't fancy any key player playing in that one only to get crocked (although we'll see what they do).

Some of his free kicks and corners have been appalling this season.

We should keep the lad for cover as others have said. he can play left back, left mid, centre mid. attacking centre mid..hes not half bad either...just don't let him near corners freekicks etc.

I agree with this. Won't get another contract for next season though.

Are you sure ?
How much is it costing these loanees to be here ?
I've no idea on Artus's wages and obviously success is the answer but guess there's no guarantees of that or of an endless supply of money.

I think in a lot of ways he is a left-footed version of Disley and was probably the reason The Dynamic Duo got him in the first place.  I totally agree he is wasted on the left wing but he isn't a winger and wasn't brought in to be one.He is one of the few players we have who can create time and space for himself. He was only given a 1 year contract last summer so I think he will leave at the end of this season.

December..lose Marshall...January lose Neilson, Pond, Hannah, so lets get rid of Artus, Soares and who else would we like to destroy. We have no idea who if any of the loanees we are/can keep, and if rumours are true and we fail to achieve our promotion aim, the budget for next season means semi pro football at GTFC then we are up the creak without the boat let alone the paddle

Personally i would prefer Frankie in midfield to Thanoj. IMO he is stronger and more creative than Thanoj. UTM

Its in his hands isn't it. I think he needs to prove his worth if given another chance because he's looked thoroughly average at best this season, characterised by his very poor delivery.

WHS, Frankie can play left midfield or in the middle so he's a decent player to have about, not sure if he'll be okay with being a squad player though...

Had a decent game yesterday,  good battling midfielder with a good deal of skill, lets not get too fussy in this sh1thole of a league, needs to put his boots on the right feet when it comes to set pieces this season but on the whole too good of a player to lose

I thought Artus played an important role in last season's unbeaten run on the left wing. He hasn't really been given a run in the team this season so his form has been a bit patchy. He scored a good and important goal against Mansfield, which on reflection got us up and running this season.

I don't see any sense or logic in getting rid of him in January. My impression is that S&H want him here as a squad player until his contract runs out.

As others have said, he can play in a number of positions. He's certainly got value as a squad player. If he wants first team football then he might look to get a deal elsewhere in the summer.

Watched him in the first team in various positions and seen him turn out for the reserves, too.

He seems to run around a lot, mostly confused about were he should be, and contributes little.

He simply isn't good enough and we should release him when the opportunity presents itself.

Shame I predict we'll be short over the next few weeks.

Injuries to colbeck? Hannah or cook and Neilson could see us struggling, suppose its the risk you take when you loan out soars and elding.
