Goalkeeper Steve Mildenhall is set to join Scunthorpe United on loan today.
Manager Brian Laws is poised to make his first signing as he looks to shore up an Iron defence which has conceded seven goals in the last two games.
The United boss admitted after Saturday's FA Cup defeat at Gillingham that his current squad was in need of 'more support and extra bodies'.
And with a leaky back line he has moved quickly to take the pressure off Sam Slocombe by bringing in the Millwall stopper.
"We have been working steadily to try and bring in an extra goalkeeper," Laws said.
"I have been cap in hand begging favours and thankfully Millwall and Kenny Jackett have obliged.
"They have allowed us to have Steve come to the club.
"Hopefully he can bring the ingredients to help us stabilize.
"We know we have to start from the back and thankfully Millwall have supported the move financially."
Laws added he felt Slocombe was in need of a break, with his confidence suffering after recent results.
"Sam is a good young goalkeeper," he said. "I was watching him for another club last year, so that shows you his progress.
"This season his confidence has been shot though.
"He needs a break and a breather, which is what we are trying to give him."
There has also been one departure, with midfielder Chris Sedgwick leaving Glanford Park.
Previous manager Alan Knill signed the former Sheffield Wednesday man on a non-contract basis but he has been restricted to just four substitute appearances.
"If we are not going to give somebody a contract then there is no point them being here," said Laws.
"We have got to concentrate on those who need our support."
I thought Steve was good while @ Town.

I agree, and a good keeper can make a massive difference to a jittery defence. He'll shout and get them organised but whether he's good enough to sort Newey is anaother matter.

I should think so he has been a League One / Championship keeper since leaving Town, albeit at Millwall he has only played 10 times since 2010.

Very competent keeper but he won't be able to keep everything out and the Scunts are as porous as a sponge.

Wasn't newey our left back when mildenhall played for us?
He is certainly a good goalkeeper and has proved himself at league 1/2 with some experience of championship football.
Could be one of the key areas that improves them...

Yeah they both signed the same season, and to be fair Newey was half decent in the year Mildenhall was our keeper. Mildenhall, Macca, Jones, Whittle and Newey was our favoured back line, wasn't a bad one either. Its just a shame Newey began to lose it after then

A goalkeeper can only do so much, i think Mildenhall(My Lord) is actually a decent signing for them but its the rest of the team they need to sort. Agent Laws is trying to build a good relationship with the fans before ruining them.... I like his style
