Bareing in mind that trialists seem to be a way forward for all clubs in todays game. Which former town trialists were you most surprised not to get a pro deal. Will start the discussion off by suggesting nigerian striker chima okerie and winger nathan arnold

Grant McCann (ex scunny, now peterboro) played left back in a freindly game if i remember correctly, he'd just been let go by West Ham.

He was. Shame we didn't stick with him! Personal issues or not we could have had ourselves a little transfer fee.

Mark Hudson (the other one, think it was around 2001)
Grant McCann
Abdul Tangara
Antti Sumiala (ex Finnish international was on trial in 00/01, was dead chuffed when we came to us, didn't get a deal)
Lee Sharpe  (trained with us in 2002, left before playing a game)
Nathan Arnold
Alan Navarro (seem to remember him playing in that friendly against FC Twente the other year)
Kevin Ellison
Jason Batty (we may have signed him on non-contract, was NZ international keeper when he came to us)
Chris Kiwomya
Kalam Mooniaruck (was mint on CM 01/02 for Man United
Richard Pacquette (think we had him on trial when he was half decent and with QPR)
Gary Ablett
Jamie Pollock (why we didn't sign him I will never know...oh yeah didn't he retire with an injury ?)
Tresor Luntala (ex Brum midfielder, looked half decent, didn't get a contract)
Lee Fowler
Ludovic Dje
Richard Langley

Then one who shouldn't of got a contracr

Clint Marcelle

Anyone remember Karl Colley was it ? Big defender from Barrow, when they were a dwindling Unibond team , think he was even there captain at the time. I think Slade took him on trial in summer 2005, was absolutley mint and bossed the two games I remember seeing him in, think one was away at Lincoln when Parkinson scored in a 1-0 win. The reason he didn't get a contract was because he was around 18 stone, had a beer gut and was built like a VW Camper, but him and Rob Jones bossed every thing in the air and opposition forwards would bounce off Colley if they didn't get dragged into his orbit

Can anyone remember the name of that Brazilian trialist we had around late nineties. Played a few reserve games, did well, then I think he signed for Palace?

Thats the one. Very decent midfielder. I seem to remember loads of fans pleading with the club to sign him up.

Can remember Lee Sharpe wanting £4,000 for playing in a friendly to prove he was good enough for a contract... big headed prat. Cameron Jerome was just a schoolkid when he was at Town for a short spell.

Yeah, I think he played in a friendly with Brigg in 2002 after he got released from an American team, he didn't get a contract with us so retired and became Everton's U17 coach.

He made the grade, it was his £10k per week wage demands that were (wrongly) deemed too high.

Ryan Smith only played for us to gain fitness though, there wasn't any intention for us to sign him as he was just offered the chance of a kick around to get him fit for a move to the states

I only remember him playing in Macca's testamonial, only let a goal in, can't remember him being poor but to say he hasn't been heard of since he was released in 2006 says a lot.

I only remember him playing in Macca's testamonial, only let a goal in, can't remember him being poor but to say he hasn't been heard of since he was released in 2006 says a lot.

I can remember mildenhall saving a shot with his bottom in that game

i am a season ticket holder and i always will be one

Wasn't Steve Slade (ex QPR) on trial here a few years ago? Also Kiernan Hughes Mason was on trial last year, he didn't make the grade, then he did, then he didn't.

"Falls to Arnold... Arnold! That's it! Thats it! He's sealed it! Grimsby Town are back in the football league!!! Just a minute to go and Nathan Arnold makes it 3-1! Look at the scenes behind the goal! Look at the relief! The agony is finally over!!!"
