He can't be that bad, keep him on trial longer and then give him a contract maybe...
Doesn't mean that much, but  some recent statistics worth noting.
2010-11 played 35 games, 11 clean sheets and Chesterfield got promoted to league 1.
2011-12  played 23 games, 6 clean sheets, won FL Trophy (he hit the crossbar, then lester scored the rebound in that game but disallowed) Chesterfield relegated back to league 2.

In what sense is he 'potentially a class act'? Anybody is potentially good, but we want actually good.
It's only fair to give him a chance and reserve judgement I guess, but just as much as he's potentially class, he's also potentially crap. Just like he used to be.

'crap like he used to be' that was 8 years ago FFS. he's played 200 odd games in the SPL and football league since then.Players and people can develop in a few years. yeah he might be crap, he might be good, but thats why i used the word 'potentially'.

Calm down a bit. You said he was 'potentially class', and ok, he is if you like. I'm just pointing out that he is 'potentially' not class, but, in fact, as poor as he was when he was with us before. I'm just going on what I saw when he played for us, and he used to make me irate. I'd rather we signed someone else on that basis. He may well now be brilliant (although his L2 team don't reckon he's good enough). He may also potentially be a world-class juggler, cocktail maker and f@cking quantity surveyor.

Baffled as to why i've read some people saying they'd rather have Garner? Ford has played a lot of games at a much higher level than Garner ever will (in my opinion) and he's not even that old.

Feels like sometimes people are TOO obsessed with having players from the lower leagues to graft our way out. It doesn't hurt to have a bit of league class too.

If signed, and he gets up to a decent fitness level quickly, I imagine he'll probably become first choice alongside Miller, with Pearson pushing them for  place. Not that i think Pearson has done anything wrong, but that's the kind of predicament we want to have.

Just spoken with a Chesterfield fan who said Ford has been quality for them & the only reason he and Niven have been released is because the Chesterfield chairman has said Sheridan can't use loan players next season, hence releasing any who had any periods out injured last year.  He has described both Niven and Ford as still capable of playing at League 1 level, so will have no problems in the conference, both were very highly thought of by Chezzie fans.

That's all I need to read, kingster. Unless he has fitness or injury problems that will not be easily put right, I hope we sign him up quickly. Simon Ford could turn out to be the final piece in a promotion jigsaw.

Anybody know if we have offered him anything yet, may be a bit early, would it be better to wait until we have played Lincoln and possibly Stalybridge to see how he gets on before we offer anything to him.

Personally I hope this works out, IMO, unless there are any injury problems, Ford would be an excellent signing!

The OS seems to think it's a done deal with Ford signing for a year. I'd say it's a great deal for us - Ford and Miller at the back would be a solid pairing imho

Hang on,  what about Pearson, improving all the time and was the pick of the defence against Lincoln last night

Welcome back to him. Think he'll be an asset at this level.

He was only young when he was last here and did a decent enough job in the second tier to get interest from other clubs. He's got years of experience under his belt now.
