LAST year's Lincolnshire Senior Cup hero Liam Hearn is dreaming of a repeat of that success this time round.

However, the frustrated 26-year-old will be forced to watch tonight's semi-final against Scunthorpe (7pm) from the sidelines after being ruled out with a troublesome Achilles injury.

The striker scored a dramatic last-minute winner to steer Grimsby Town to a thrilling 4-3 victory over fierce rivals Lincoln City in last year's final.

The Imps await in the final of this season's competition, but in order to set up another mouthwatering derby, the Mariners must first get past the League One outfit at Glanford Park this evening.

Despite his injury heartache, Hearn has vowed to cheer on his team-mates in the hope that he can play some part in this year's final.

Speaking to the Telegraph, he said: "I'll not be playing tonight but I'll be travelling with the lads for the game and cheering them on.

"Obviously I'm gutted that I'm not going to be involved.

"I'm struggling with my calf and Achilles and it's really frustrating at the minute.

"But I'll be involved with the squad both before and after the game so I won't be totally out of it.

"It will be another tough game, but hopefully, we can a result tonight, get through to Lincoln and give the fans a great game to look forward to in the final.

"There are a few who say that we shouldn't be taking this competition too seriously, but speaking to the lads and the gaffers, it's something that we want to win.

"Obviously I was hoping to play in it tonight, but if we can get a result, then hopefully I can be back for the final."

Reflecting on last year's success in which he helped the Mariners to lift the Lincolnshire Senior Cup for the first time in 11 years, Hearn added: "Last year's game against Lincoln was amazing. It was a great feeling to score the winner and see how much it meant to the fans to beat them and win the cup.

"I think that this year, if we can get through to the final and win it again then it will give the lads a big boost and hopefully we can take that into the start of the season.

"Obviously, first and foremost it's about getting past Scunthorpe which isn't going to be easy."

I think that team is about right but I think the bosses may go with Artus instead of Soares for his defensive capabilities!

               McKeown
Wood  Pearson  Miller  Thomas
Hatton  Niven    Disley    Artus
        G Pearson  Cook

Maybe try hatton further forward, right mid or centre mid perhaps? It would be harsh on Bradley Wood to leave him out and it is still pre season, so nows the time to try things.

Anyone know if Scunny are putting out their first 11, squad players, lads, or a mixture of the aforementioned selection?

That should make a difference to our starting 11 and which subs we take.

Manager Alan Knill revealed that Damien Mozika will not feature in the Lincolnshire Senior Cup semi final against Grimsby Town on Tuesday night (7.00pm).

The French midfielder signed from Lancashire outfit Bury last summer and since his move to Glanford Park has suffered with numerous injuries.

Knill told The Iron Player: “Damo was unlucky, he turned this ankle the Saturday before we went, so there is no way we are going to risk him.”

The Iron boss also confirmed that Mozika will be going for a precautionary scan just to determine the extent of the injury.

Paul Reid will also be missing from the from County Cup match who sustained a hand injury whilst on tour in Ireland.

Knill said: “Reid will be going to see a specialist on Wednesday and that will be to determine whether he has broken or displaced his hand.

“It is not that bad with Reidy though because if something comes back from the specialist, he will still be able to play but he will have to wear a cast.”

The Iron are expected to welcome back Niall Canavan to the team after he missed the opening tour match of Ireland with a knee injury.

The 21 year old played a minor part in the 1-0 victory over Wayside Celtic last Thursday and will be expected to play a bigger role against Grimsby.

Apart from the above players, everybody else is fit and available for selection ahead of the Lincolnshire Senior Cup semi final.

Can't see him proving to be much of a problem for Colbeck, said on radio humberside that they are awaiting clearance for 2 maybe 3 trialists for tonight's game.

Not sure commentary will help. Just try and relax or perhaps have a nice, long bath and get the candles out.

For me the jury is still out on Hatton and Niven-they might have history but it's what you produce now that matters to Town.Wood deserves his place at the back  as he knows how to keep in position-Hatton has a tendency to wonder.
