Wowee. Some Americans sure are stoopid. Very amusing to read, however.

The fact that they gave this bloke a job as a Professor sounds ridiculous but it certainly explains a lot when you see his expertise lies in "Religion and Philosophy". Sheesh.

That just made me laugh. How can someone say football is boring when he comes from a country that gave the world American football and baseball? Baseball in particular being so excrement that nobody else will participate in the "world series".

Yeah saw that. Astounding ignorance, it's gobsmacking that they published this in a respectable paper. Nice bit of light sexism in there too just to cap off a great argument!

Dunno if I dreamt this but wasn't Gridiron invented by an Englishman anyway?? Sure I read that somewhere.

One of the comments states that it was a satirical piece from elsewhere which the WSJ re-published without noting this. It certainly looks daft enough to be a satirical article!

I seem to remember reading that Gridiron was previously a lot more like Rugby with a more free-flowing game. Originally, they weren't allowed to make forward passes, either!

I'd imagine that a free-flowing game proved too difficult for the Yanks to follow so they had to change the rules to break things up a bit.

I was watching the MLS game the another night on TV and the Red Bulls fans were cheering and celebrating behind the goal when they were drawing 2-2 with a few minutes to go. That would never happen here in a game you were expected to win at home (this was against Seattle) - fans would be screaming for a winner. So even the people who do watch it don't seem to get it.

It's good that the Americans have their own sports though otherwise if they really adopted "soccer" in a big way then more top players might be drawn away from Europe than is already the case.

Baseball is just glorified rounders anyway, and it can take up too 4 hours + to complete a game and you'd have to get drunk in the stands to enjoy yourself.

Saw a study that proved American Football has on average 11 minutes of actual action per game. Painfully boring.

American footballers don't last very long. Most of them have a very short career of around 3 years, and their life expectancy is in their 50s unbelievably (probably because many of them are very fat).

They've actually discovered recently that Gridiron players are getting brain damage even from a really young age - even at High School, due to the impacts they endure in the games.

Actually, this explains quite a lot...

They don't like football 'cuase you have to watch the action for more than 3 seconds.
Which is the average length of there attension. if you notice most tele programmes have cuts to a diferent shot approximatly 3 second apart.

Serious sport has nothing to do with fair play.
It is bound up with hatred, jealousy, boastfullness,
disregard of all rules and a sadistic pleasure in witnessing violence;
In other words it is war without the shooting.

Think they must have brain damage before they play. Only explanation why they'd choose to play such a poor sport.
