WTF is going on with all these random posters with stupid long names who just keep adding to the end of threads with a copied part of an earlier post!!
I've noticed we're not getting many spam postings for Ugg Boots and Pushchairs now but now we seem to be getting inundated with these.

Its annoying! I got a negative reputation score from someone the other day whos got -11 him/herself - 2 days ago. I've barely posted anything for about a week and certainly not said anything controversial. I think some new posters are coming on here and trying to mess things up!  |

Can't these sharp objects be blocked by there IP Address, then any doing duplicate accounts will be banned permanently?

Some poeple's IPs change automatically every day though. Best way is to ban email addresses I think. They'll get bored of creating new ones just to re-register eventually. If they don't then they really are mentally ill and/or have way too much time.
another way which can unfortunately annoy normal users, is to ban registering with free email address such as hotmail and gmail too. Also like someone mentioned above bring in those silly picture word things in to make sure the user is at least human. |

If Rob decides to upgrade the forum software I reckon everyone would have to re-register and start from scratch anyway. If the Captcha system were to be adopted it would ensure the forum only had real people.
Registering with a free email address doesn't guarantee the user won't invent a whole raft full of addresses. It's sad but there are trolls out there that would do just that. The Football365.com forum actually insisted on a school or work email address. That's a bit OTT IMHO.
I don't know the full answer but for now I think there's relatively few incidents we're not aware of and manage reasonably well. Of course, any complaints can be addressed to Rob...

There have been a couple of forums I've joined over the years where instead of a Captcha caption there has just been a field where a question, which anybody would know has to be answered. That would stop the spam posters just the same I would have thought. |

I think banning an email and not allow hotmail or gmail accounts would be the best option, for me personally It wouldnt bother me having to re-register. ok I'll lose the amount of posts and my decent rep but I can get that back, if we're not careful our regular members may just stay away to long who I think add good arguments to the forum.
Failing that we can always clear off on the GTFC MB
