Similar thread to Meza's but with a slight twist....

We probably expected Hearn to be a hit and Makofo, Duffy etc not to tear up trees.
But based on what you expected BEFORE THE SEASON STARTED who's been the biggest HIT and who's been the biggest MISS ?

I'd say:
HIT
Silk (didn't strike me as right back pre-season and doubted his pace but has impressed there)

MISS
Tough one tbh !
Probably Church cos I expected a bit more in open play (though maybe harsh as he's not been in the team that much...)

Is it fair to say things have generally panned out as we expected ?

I certainly didn't expect TENTH in the league. I am very unhappy with our league position although I will concede at times we have looked decent. I think we should be looking at giving the management team until Christmas, if we are not in the play offs at the very least it may be time to part company.

yawn

Getting out of this league isn't easy and we are not as massive as you think anymore, sad state of affairs I know, but not the managers fault, sacking them wont make any difference, stop living in 1994 and start living in 2012.

anyway back on topic

Hit
Andi Thanoj, youth player I didn't expect much from, but has impressed and i'd argue he should be first on the sheet for midfield, managers trying to protect him too much has been their biggest mistake.

Miss
Anthony Church, Boston said he was good, both him and Pearson started poorly, Pearson has improved Church hasn't, not good enough.

Hit: Elding, I thought he was a bit of a fat, egotistical, journeyman sat on a fat wage when we signed him. I was wrong! He's been a breath of fresh air.

Narrowly missing out: Hearn, McKeown, Thanoj.

Miss: Coulson for me. After last season I really thought this would be the year to push on, improve and become the best player in the league. He's been inconsistently decent without reach my high expectations.

Narrowly missing out: Makofo, Spencer, Disley.

"Falls to Arnold... Arnold! That's it! Thats it! He's sealed it! Grimsby Town are back in the football league!!! Just a minute to go and Nathan Arnold makes it 3-1! Look at the scenes behind the goal! Look at the relief! The agony is finally over!!!"

Brilliant idea, lets only give them 18 months to get a promotion winning team together. If they haven't quite got it spot on, lets start from square one again. Seems sensible.

Hit: Townsend - didn't realise an 18 year old could play as well as he does in this tough division.

Miss: Disley - had really high hopes for him. He's an improvement on what we had but still think we need better.

Miss: the young loanee Luke McCarthy didn't really do much or add to the team

Hit: Townsend pretty much every other position has been messed around with except LB when he's been fit (except GK).

Hit James McKeown for the same reason
