Chester promoted again and in front of more than 5000 fans. Just shows what can be achieved. Well done I say

bsp north is going to be a very competitive affair next year with some big clubs in it - chester, boston, darlington, kettering and halifax all averaging over 1000, whilst worcester, altrincham and nuneaton all get healthy followings

Fantastic gate for Chester and probably very sweet form them to achieve promotion in front of their own fans v their county rivals.

I'm not sure Kettering will average over 1000 playing 'away' from home at Nene Park at that level but I certainly agree.

Fingers crossed for the Pilgrims!

A club that was in financial problems for years and kept selling its soul to various ego maniacs - and its successor formed by fans and now getting gates as big as Town. Lots to be learnt there, I'd say...

Maybe, but I doubt their fans will "gift" 200,000 shares to a multi millionaire!

Suppose you could also ask the question, where were they when the club needed all the fans it could get?

Fair play to them though, I wouldn't be surprised to see them go up the following year too.

The fans did desperate things backing whoever said they had the money even if it seemed unprincipled - now where have we seen that before...

the fans were boycotting the club aldi ,due to the 'antics' of steve vaughan, a man who could make steve evans look almost saintly.just google stev vaughan, chester city & twohundredpercent. a series of articles by the latter will explain to you why chester ended playing before gates of a few hundred

They are successful because Gary Jones is their assistant manager.

I fully understand why the were boycotting but makes you wonder if something could've been done at the time or if starting from scratch again was the best option.

Be interesting to see how they do next year or if indeed the attendances drop if they don't run away with the league...

Good for Chester. Nice to see a fans' club succeed.

However, it needs to be mentioned that the Deva Stadium is owned by the local council and they were the ones who gave the lease to Chester FC, enabling a 'Phoenix from the flames' type of revival. Therefore, the situation isn't really much like Grimsby where the local council just aren't interested in helping the local club in any way at all and have no involvement with the current (or any future), grounds.

starting from scratch was definitely the best option. there is still an awful lot more to come out from the vaughan era. needless to say that given they were opposing a close friend of curtis warren, who was also a big player in the liverpool boxing and doors 'scene' was a fairly daunting prospect and many felt intimidated/threatened. you have to understand that chester was not being run as a football club nor as a business in the orthodox/legal sense of the word. chester city was used as a vehicle for other purposes/agendas which may not have been totally on the right side of the law
