Penalty is unclear first viewing, watching again shows Church had a hold on the guy for about 5 seconds or more. One thing that is clear though, it was another miserable attempt to clear our lines that lead to the penalty.

Maybe I'm looking through my black and white specs here but was Church's challenge really worthy of a red card?

I've seen other teams defenders practically undress our players and throw them down on the turf wrestle-mania style and we've got nothing from the ref but for something rather clumsy like that Church goes off?

I'll never understand these decisions

Stopped a clear goalscoring opportunity though, FOOW, so correct decision imho. (Although I'm certainly no ref  )

Wrong decision for peno yes, but yellow card at most as other players were around the H&Y player it's not like a Ono on one were he was hacked down.  I've seen some refs give a yellow because a peno is just as much a punishment.  Harsh really.  In fact after seeing it again it's very difficult to make out exactly what he did if itsfor a slight tug on the shirt then it's a soft peno but it's gone, we won and bring in Luton

Great point !
If only eveyone thought like this Meza.

Church should have been yellow I agree.

Violent/cynical last man outside the box then yes, a red.
But this "if it's the last man and it's a foul then it's red" rule is too simplistic for me cos it doesn't take into account if the player is genuinely trying to win the ball.

In general, cards used to be given for violent or cynical behaviour, now the slightest tug or offence can mean red.

The games gone loopy ! (but what do you expect from FIFA and the FA?)

It is being looked at and i'm sure i heard a commentator say it was being applied in the Prem next season, though i could have that wrong.

Will just lead to more defenders bringing down attackers in the hope that the keeper save the resulting penalty IMO.

Thanks for posting that.
Good news, better late than never IMO.

Maybe but if it's completely cynical/violent then I'd hope it'll be a red as well anyway.
