I'd be surprised if they allowed a turbine that close to residential housing. They are pretty noisy things.

The main problems with both solar and wind powered energy is the initial costs, eaten mainly up by profits because they are heavily subsidized.  Wind turbines give around 30% of what they are rated at over a certain period.  Solar panels if I am not mistaken are only life'd for 15 to 25 years.  As charges go up you will get your money back in the long run but the initial expense is very high.

Wave energy and thermal energy from 90 mtr down are also tough ones to get into.  The problem is the way things are designed and until the boffins come up with new ideas we will see power cuts in the near future.

Jesus’ disciple Peter, picked up a fish to get the tribute money from it, Jesus left his thumb print on the fish, bless'ed is the Haddock.

How about a tidal barrage from the back of the main stand to spurn head?

Might cause a few problems with the dozens (hundreds?) of cargo and fishing boats/ships and ferries which pass up and down the Humber each day...

Nah - you need a little more room than that!

The Humber Bank has plenty of space for a modern Nuclear power plant and the correct resources as well (i.e. water for cooling). Would be a great draw for heavy industry if one was built near here as well as providing lots of construction jobs and pumping lots of money into the area. It would be much more useful for power generation than the whole Wind power boondoggle, as well.

The big problem would be the initial investment required, both in building the plant and creating the national grid infrastructure to transfer the electricity generated elsewhere. Does anybody have a few billion going spare to invest?

Wonder if one of the many frustrated millionaires who are desperate to plough money in to GTFC but won't whilst Fenty is there could help?

If we ran a bridge across the top of the barrage, would we need to have a checkpoint in the middle to stop refugees from the North Bank moving over to the land of milk and honey?

Good point, it's far more complicated than I thought. . . this generating enough power for the floodlights at BP lark!
