Why don't Grimsby Town apply to be the first club to test out Goal Line Technology - Hawk-Eye or GoalRef??

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/mar/03/video-technology-football-tests

Quoted Text
Hawk-Eye, the British company that popularised the use of technology in tennis and cricket and was recently acquired by Sony, and GoalRef, a German-Danish company, are behind the two systems selected from a field of eight for testing. Six others were ruled out following a series of tests in Zurich.

Why? just curious

Would anyone be against Video Technology to play back potential mistakes made by referees when they give penaltys instead of corners?

I'm all for it.

Because it's not needed? Because I'd rather not aid this Sky Sports driven 'Charge of the Light Brigade' style foray into something that would have implications for the game at every level across the world. And if every level and every game of football is not touched by this decision, then it shouldn't be made because we'd not be playing the same sport! Because I'da rather not contribute to the next stage of the sterilisation of football as a spectacle.

I could go on for hours about this situation, but merely thinking about the inevitability of this horrendous decision angers me to the point where I can barely bring myself to type another word.

Put simply, 'goal-line technology' can get knotted.

We'd all just be happy with a decent ref...

FIFA are involved, it will be excrement and besides, we don't want technology in sport...the so called experts will do themselves out of a job if they keep banging on about it. Nothing for them to whine about at half time etc on the tele.

I guess it works both ways I wonder what the refs think about it, I would imagine they would be all for it seeing that it will only help the officiate games.  Having said that were does it end, soon there will be micro chips in football boots and the ball to help with offsides.  The only thing i wish is that the 4th official has more of an influence instead of picking his nose on the touch line, were certain decisions (such as penalty incidents, sending offs etc) are quickly reviewed using video playback and relayed back to the ref.  This IMO will bring together players and refs (similar to rugby) i.e. respect.  If the 4th official is only used for added time then he's a waste, they should utilise him more.
